Been primarily a bow hunter with occasional opening day sits on private. More of a social gun season guy- friends from out of town and family visiting.
Wondering what are your “go to tactics” or “tips” for gun season. Public or private. TIA

Unpressured deer: Sit somewhere between bedding and food, and smile knowing I have 100+ yards extra range I can use to ruin a deer’s day. 🙂

Pressured deer/Public deer: Sit in an area of known escape cover or a pinch point… Let others do my work for me and push the deer my way.

Bonus tactic: Still-hunt on a windy day through marshy high ground and other known bedding areas. This works particularly well after the first couple days of gun season.

I’m with JB on this one!

Gun seasons - just don’t have the guys they use to and guys don’t hunt like they use to hunt.

I find a blind, get comfortable and sit a good while. Low pressure and enjoy knowing I can reach out and touch them if needed.

Public, get in early…. Really early and hit pinch points. Let the guys late too the party move em too ya…..

Private, I like creek crossings and very narrow pinch points…. Get elevated and get ready for a long sit…. Before the prime evening movement, get close to a cut corn field or bean field.

I enjoy gun hunting because it takes me back to a time gone bye. Being a young boy and spending time with my dad and his hunting/drinking buddies . 😁 Times laughs and lessons I will never forget! If I kept my grades good dad would keep me out of school the week of gun. My dad was awesome! I can remember him going to my jr high school and having a short meeting with the principal when they told us he couldn't take me out for a week. 😂

Like alot of you it's not what it use to be but we still all get together. My brothers uncles and cousins still all hunt together as a group gun week. We still do drives a few days a week but mostly sit like we're bow hunting now. I will always enjoy gun just because of the times I've had with my family. Me and my brothers are actually headed home now from ky to make it back in time for my parents yearly (deer party) that they have been doing for 35 years now. Lots of beer and bull shitting tonight.
