One of my best friends since college and his 10 yo daughter started their thru hike last week. They've sectioned hiked 200+ miles but are doing it from Springer Mountain GAv so the way north this time.

Another good friend from college is waiting on his dog to pass before he attempts it.

I want to meet up with them for a few days but with the house build and everything else I dunno if I'll be able to.

It's on my bucket list.

How much of it are you wanting to do? Personally, if it was a bucket list item, I'd wait until I could do at least a satisfying amount. Be like a weekend trip to a lifetime destination. That would suck. Not enough time to soak anything in and enjoy it.

I vote to enjoy what they share and focus on the things at hand. Use this to really fuel the want to go. Thousands of people do it every year, don't let these guys take the joy out of it just because you know them. The run and gun Florida pig hunts is on my bucket list. It just isn't going to happen for a few more years. I don't let that bother me when these guys from TOO go. It actually helps me. By the time I am able to go, they should have it dialed in!

Appalachian Trail passes through the town I live in... I see single girls hiking it quite often... Gotta say they are brave, as I wouldn't hike it alone... And some of them are hiking the entire length...

After she retired a good friend‘s wife would go for a week each summer and hike a section alone.
