For all you trappers, identify this trap?

I had thought about that Adam. With it having an exact date shown, it may be possible to find it.

The only trap I could find that was relatively close was a fish trap, but even with them, the trigger mechanism pulls straight down between the clamps

262 patents for October 8, 1978, gonna go through them this evening and see if this thing shows up

I have seen spring loaded fish spears/ grabbers. If it is tripped by pushing in, I bet it is a muskie size fish grabber!!

I just spoke to a guy that collects some traps. When I showed him the picts., he did not hesatate to say it was a bear trap. He added that it was not very popular because although "strong",it was not strong enough to hold when set as a leghold or in some cases a head hold w/ bait because it would not (in most cases) "bite" into the bone. Although hard on tissue, not biting into bone or skull allowed the bear to tear loose through violent shaking and in many cases escape and leave the area with a really pissed off bear.
