That is AWESOME!!!:smiley_clap:
Sounds like you have plenty of deer in your neck of the woods.
Plenty of doe. We killed over 30 in the close vicinity this year so far.

This evening was a mess, wind was swirling and completely out of control. It rained, snowed, sleeted, was windy and times and calm at others. I opted to stay up top of the hills to have a better chance at beating that wind. I hunted a stand labeled Jim2 and I’m glad I did. I seen a total of 6 deer. 5 were for sure doe and they came by me way to fast for anything to happen, something had them spooked. They came from by the truck, but I wouldn’t think a truck would freak them out like this. The last deer was doing that stupid sideways run like it had been shot at! Maybe someone was hunting across the property line? Not sure.
As the light faded it turned to that beautiful big snow flake falling. I was in total peace with just watching the flakes fall as if each one was placed there by the mighty one himself. Just about out of all light and I see movement...CLOSE! Inside 30 yards kind of close. Huge body but couldn’t make out if it had headgear or not. Heart pounding harder then someone stomping turds down a shower drain, I still didn’t squeeze that trigger. I just couldn’t be “that guy”, the guy you let come hunt and he killed the ghost buck after he shed.
I waited until I felt comfortable that deer was long gone and snuck back to the truck grinning the entire time!
Sometimes the hunt is more enjoyable then the harvest. Just take it all in, relax, have fun. Sometimes slowing down in life brings the most pleasure and cleanses the soul. We all need days like the one you just had where you felt at peace.
"Sicker than Dustin's shower habits..." lmao
Great read Dave. Always good to get insights from other hunters as to how they view their season. Good perspectives in there!
Good luck brother! I really appreciate your appreciation for simply being there in the moment. You've been a good teacher to me this year in that regard and I often think of you (not in a gay way like Michael does) when I begin to feel myself losing sight of what matters when I'm out there chasing deer. Might be simplier if we didn't get lost in our own heads, but then again, it might not be as entertaining either!
