Another .6" of rain yesterday morning, I don't want to go out and check again after this mornings storms. The wet corner is currently a great frog mating spot, meanwhile I feel like Maximus when walking thru the other 7 rows. The pumpkin patch is in the far RH of the picture, its winter rye is about 80% height of the main garden. Both should work well to create the weed mat Im looking for. The wet area of the garden will be tilled when it dries out.

Prepping my raised beds on this very humid day started with me digging up 60 plus young hickory trees(just one bastard oak in the bunch, lol). Anyway I used a long spade shovel to dig up and transplant all throughout our wooded lot in the more sparse looking areas. If only a fraction live it would be time worth spent, IMO. I did this last year as well planting about the same amount. Anyway, the beds are ready for planting very soon.

The winter rye has reached eye level and I've begun crimping it down by hand with a t-post. It's slow going, but is therapeutic to nicely lay everything where it needs to go. I'm very pleased with the weed suppression so far, and hope it continues thru the growing season.

Some of the seedlings have graduated from the basement setup to start getting some sunlight and warmer temps, hoping to transplant into 3" containers this weekend. I'm ready to quit babysitting and get them in the ground!
