ODNR Deer Harvest comparison

I can't help but wonder how much of the reduced harvest is due to educated hunters passing does this year. Its obvious that the herd is smaller, we've all noticed that, but I have also seen plenty of posts from guys that have let the does walk who would not have hesitated a few years ago. I work with lots of guys who hunt. Not many of them participate in forums like this, but for the most part, they all seem to echo the sentiment that we have gone to far with the does.
The dnr judges the herd based on the mature buck kill during gun season. What they should be looking at now is the doe kill.

While driving from Cincy to Morgan County yesterday (3.5 hour-200 miles approx.) I saw one Roadkill deer,no live deer and one live yote on my drive. I know I might have missed some because of concentrating on my driving due to higher volume of traffic but dang!
My route was I-71 to E-270 to E-70 to S 60 to moms.
I saw the yote cruising along the small airstrip along the N bound side of 71 right behind the orange windsock next to the fence. Looked rather large and had been eating well....fuggar!

The reduction won't stop until the deer/car collisions drop below what they deem an acceptable level for the insurance company groups and the farmers have a acceptable level of crop damage which who knows what that is since coons/ground hogs do as much or more too crops than deer..... But it would seem too be the deers fault all the while.....

We actually have farmers tell us not to shoot coyotes because they kill groundhogs and raccoons

It is obvioius Blackbeard. According to previous statements from the ODNR, the people in your county are simply not putting forth enough effort. You are all a bunch of lazy slackers. Does it make you feel better knowing the answer to your question? :smiley_crocodile::smiley_blackeye:
Not pointing the finger at you or anyone in your county. Simply poking fun at one of the previous reasons stated by the ODNR for numbers being down.

I love hearing this! Its about time others are seeing it. Perhaps enough folks are finally seeing it to make the DoW pull back the reigns a bit. Or at least enough to realize the DoW really does use the "throw it on the wall to see what sticks" management plan.

Conservation must be promoted by sportsmen. The DOW can not be trusted to protect the resource. Their agenda has been made clear. I would gladly contribute to the cost of a booth @ the D&T expo to educate others with facts and literature. We can't let Ohio become PA.

So where are we at today. last day before gun compared to the last day before gun last year. i do think its poetic that the harvest is way down, even with the muzzy weekend in oct.
