I got skunked today! Did not see a single deer! Not on the way there, in the stand, or on the way home. A buddy that hunts prob 10 minutes up the road said he saw 23 deer this morning.. Im thinking WTF!! Oh well onto my other farm Wed morning..

In my blind behind the house this morning. Oldest son is driving him and his brother to school so I can stay out a little longer today. Nothing yet unless you count the field mouse that ran under my feet! uploadfromtaptalk1410952941431.jpg

Crazy.. That is the word of the day thus far.. Walked to the top where corn and alph alpha is planted and saw at least 1 good buck and 14 or so white tails blowing and running away.. Thought oh well let me just get to my stand and see what happens.. Walk on back between the 2 fields and 3 more deer run out of the corn.. I keep going and get back to the fence I have to go through to get to the stand and see the farmer has the cows back there. Ok no biggie I will go to another stand. On my way back there I kick 3 more deer.. I keep walking and about 100 or so yards from me I see a deer standing there. Grab my binos and it's one of the nicest bucks I have seen on this farm and he has me pegged.. He started stomping and finally blew and took off. Finally get to the stand which was only 40yds from me at that point and sat down and 3 does come up from behind me. No way I can grab my bow and get turned around without getting nailed. So I watch them out of the corner of my eye. They all looked away so I slowly reach for the bow and there goes the alarm! I guess there was a 4th that I couldn't see but she saw me.. So that's where I am ring now.. Still sitting here hoping one cruses by..

Dang Chris! This is why hunting mornings can be detrimental in and around the grain fields. Getting into your stand during the early season is 100% of the battle!
I'd almost wait and hunt the next evening if possible or wait till it an hour later in the morning and still hunt your way to your stand. You have any stands over acorns you can hunt mid morning or mid day?

I would love to hunt evenings but right now that's not an option.. Having to be at work at 7 some days and 8 on others it would be pointless.. That and having to make sure the boy does his HW evening are out.. I do have a stand by an oak tree and that is the one I was going to first before I saw the cows all around it.. Oh well it was a bittersweet day but this is just the beginning :)

I have to agree. Bumping them too bad this early could mean a real long season. Hopefully you can figure them out and get a couple sets that are low impact to get to. Good luck to you!!

I totally understand buddy and been down that road myself. I'd just find a set located near some heavily falling acorns that's not too invasive or easily accessible so you don't blow them out everytime you head to your stand. Are there any oak flats you can access via a creek drainage? Can't tell from your map.
