damn, that website has some great deals. I could turn my AR into a "pistol" pretty inexpensively

Maybe it maybe not....
If you bought it as a stripped lower then it was transferred as an "other" and can be made into a rifle or pistol. If it was a complete lower or a complete rifle it was transferred as a rifle and the only way you can legally put a short barrel on it (pistol or rifle) is too form 1 it and make it a SBR.
