Trapping Price's A Joke!!!!!!!!

Well I went to a OSTA last weekend,,talk about some guys needing some Vasoline the furr took a big drop!!!!!!!! My buddy took the following items:
-70 coon hides
-20 muskrats
-5 opossoms
and got a whole $345,don't trap people it won't even pay for your fuel

Years ago you could have cleared about 13-$1400 just with the coon skins. Market still flooded with held over stock or something ?

Nobody is buying, China, Russia etc. Plus many local buyers took it in the rear last year, bought fur from locals and then it didn;t sell at NAFA, or sold low.. Maybe this year they are hedging their bets.. I would have walked with my fur for that price. On the up side.. Keep an eye on Craigslist.. Should be tons of cheap traps and trapping gear up this summer.

Some good some not so good fur there. Seen the early prices and ended up taking my mink and rats back out to the truck. :smiley_depressive:
Do it over I would have put it on the table and no saled it. Didn't have that many big coon and knew I wouldn't get much on the 1x and under sizes. I was right. Should have pulled them also.:tantrum:
Next year everything goes on the table and will no sale if needed.
Will be sending my mink and rats up north to FHA tomorrow at the OSTA Reg C meet. This is first for me shipping north.Will see how I do there.

I don't know the first thing about trapping, furs, or pricing. All I know is I hate skinning animals and the money best be damn good if I'm skinning 70 coons AND then doing all the work to tan!!! That's one hobby I don't need!!!

That is why I still have 6 coon hides from last year hanging in my shop. I would burn more gass going to a buyer to sell than what I would have gotten selling them.

That is also why I didn't even set 1 trap this year. I had a ball trapping but I am not going to go broke doing it.

My son has been hinting about trapping. I screwed with it a very little bit as a kid but I have not really encouraged him. ZNot much money to be made for the work you put in.

Sounds like he knows what he is doing then. I wonder if he wouldn't have done a little better through NAFA? Prices were looking good this year early on.

Boy those were better than what offered at the auction,I bought a yote hide off a guy so I can tan it,,its the nicest yote hide I ever seen it looks like a wolf its so big I would say it came off a 70lb.+ yote,they offered him $5 and he said he wouldn't let it go for less than $20 for the amount of time he had in it so I gave him $20 for a very nice hide

Smart trappers also sell the carcass's also

I sold all my rats carcass for $1.50 each and the small coon for $3
The large coon no one wants
Possum brought $1

I sold all but a few of the coon to 1 guy for a wild game feed

Most places I trap are within 10 miles of home. I figure the fuel it costs is right around what I would have in a deer tag and processing it. But now with the rise in fuel,:tantrum: that is out the window.
