An average bear is 200-250 but bigger is not uncommon nothing like AK or northern states , NC. Has some bruisers due to the fact they eat year round ..

The state of WVA has a lot of Bears and has bigger bears , but the state also has a lot of problems with bears every year , I don't agree with the smaller weight limit myself but it's just like liberal bag limits in other places with deer they (DNR ) do what it takes to lower the number don't think anyone is bragging or proud of the small bears as you put it , being from Alaska your not gonna see bears that big Alaska is the shit for big game , Pa holds big bears ,but I was told they don't have , or have limited dog hunting Maine same thing lots of bears over bait but most folks paying for a hunt average 200-300 lbs bears some bigger but that's the average .Maybe I'm misunderstanding , but I'm not offering anything I can't deliver , can't guarantee a bear , that's hunting but you will see bears and they will average from legal size up to 300 lbs and I don't expect to come to Ohio if a hunt is exchanged and take a pope and young either just looking to make friends and trade hunts ..Ohio don't have many to speak of far as Bears goes so it's a win win in my book .

wv67.... Like you have said most bears will be under 300lbs.. Probably a good average is somewhere between 150-225 lbs.. I think 99% of the guys realize you can't guarantee a bear. It's fair chase. This year if you were to ask me to guarantee you a bear here in Jersey, I would have said no problem.. Boy would I have been wrong, as bear activity dropped off big time come Oct. ,and I had bears hitting my donuts all day and night. Still can't figure that one out as temps were up and they had a great food source.. I thought it was going to be a slam dunk.. Here is a pic of the guy I was after... Seen him one day and he looked like a black VW coming.. But he made a lucky turn and disappeared.. Goes to show you its never a given. I'll be chasing him in 2017.. Hes bigger than your average Yogi... As far as Pa. no dog's or baiting... Good Luck in your quest for land..
Thanks , That is a big bear for sure buddy good luck with him , I wish we could bait here , but even bait isn't no guarantee , Our main problem on the lease is they tear up so much I have a buddy from Illinois and one from Maryland that come hunt they get tore up when they see one , they both got their first with me which was a great feeling ... How much you think that rascal weighs in guessing upper 3s easy he's a pretty thing

Bear I seen a 600 lb one once the neighbor got it and I thought that was a giant , man I hope you can get an atv or a truck to help get that guy out man keep me posted on that guy this fall while ya chasing him he's a beauty looks like an angus cow
I wasn't trying to be disrespectful at all. I know Alaska is exceptional on those types of things, the food is much more abundant. I've never looked into it and I'm looking for info. If I was to ever go on a hunt like this, I wouldn't want to pass up a trophy for that area and not know it.

I've taken a few black bears in the past because they caused problems. Only one grizzly and he lives on my wall now...them critters ain't no joke! Tough sumbitches ain't the word. That's for its own story all together, lol.

wv67... Getting him out is going to be a BIG BIG problem... I'm 2 miles from my truck... Can't use a quad... And I was hunting alone this year, but had guys on call.. I've got some history with this bear as I have been playing tag with him for about 4 years now. I'm looking for a small lease in Ohio if I find something I'll let you know...

My cousin and his buddies have taken a few off the property the last 8 years.....most around 275 lbs.... one I think was 350. But they live there and hunt there a lot more than I do. I usually down there for a week in the spring turkey hunting and a week in the fall deer hunting. But I always seem to run into the dang bears when I least expect it.

LOL yeah they will pop up on ya and some don't make as much noise as ya think when walking in on ya sucks walking in to your stand in the dark and having one take off gets ya at first. But they won't bother ya
Do they stink like AK bears? I hate it when you smell one before you see it. Not as bad as hearing the teeth clack though...that's a bear that doesn't plan on moving. Best make some noise and back out slowly.
Some stink , and I've heard them pop their teeth and have them walk away slowly looking back most of em here just take off though they r used to seeing folks the ones at the coal mines are not scared at all they come right to ya wanting food ,

As for stink... Our bears do not stink. I've been on tagging trips in Pa. and when handling the cubs they are very clean, and you can rub your nose in their fur and its reminds you of a puppy. Hearing teeth clack??? While bow hunting one time I had a big boar put his front paws on the tree I was up and he was popping his jaws. Are they dangerous?? Not long ago we had a hiker killed by one.. Article attached:

Jaw popping/clacking is a sign that the bear is challenging you or you scared it. Either way, it's not a good thing. I've seen them puff up like cats and side step. That's no time to get the camera out either, lol. Bears ain't stupid, unless it's scared, then it's very unpredictable/stupid. I don't miss hiking around listening to the bells jingle on the dogs collar.
As for the stink...that's a boars way of treating you like another boar. He thinks he can kick your ass and is trying to tell you that by pissing a nasty smelling piss.
