Levi is asking for a combo shotgun for his birthday this year. Wants to have one gun he can run and gun any game with. 20 gauge

I was always an 870 fan but I think they are pretty much junk now. Anyone still buying these things? Shotguns for small game and slug barrel. Open to suggestions here. Thanks

I'll be honest, I'm pretty lost here. Been a long time since I've known someone to buy a shotgun that wans for turkey or waterfowl. Lol

Caught myself looking at the weatherby pa-08 just now.

Beretta A400 Xtreme, Benelli SBE 3, or a Franchi Affinity. Get him a nice auto loader he’ll own and shoot for the rest of his life. Don’t piss around with a pump gun. With today’s ammo offerings, you can do literally anything with a 20 gauge. I do 90% of my duck hunting with a 20-bore these days.

I have the 870 youth model and absolutely love it, and still use it. Interchangeable rifled barrel with scope for deer. Smooth barrel with Interchangable chokes for everything else. Im glad I learned on a pump gun and not a semi auto. Ive actually never purchased a semi auto shotgun. I won the Beretta A400 at a PF banquet and while its a lightweight gun it wont eject anything except highbrass shells, and i have a big issue with that for being such a high $ gun. Id does feel nice in hand though. I like guns I'm not afraid to put some dings on. Single shot weapons with hammers scare me in anyone's hands, but especially those who are not experienced.

Definitely go with an automatic. You can get a youth model or a full size. The difference is length of trigger pull. Youths are usually 13”+ w regular being 14 1/4. Get synthetic stocks, you can buy another w a shorter stock or cut one. Make sure that type of gun sells a rifled barrel. Length on shotgun I’d get a 26” barrel. I personally like a 28” , but 26” would be easier to handle. Shit when I was 8yrs old my dad bought me a browning A5 in 20 gauge and cut the walnut stock to fit. Believe it has a 30” barrel but not sure. Later I bought a replacement stock and put it on. There is tons of shotguns and models, not as many that also has a rifled barrel. And just remember….BUY ONCE, CRY ONCE! Who sells guns cause they want a new one, I don’t know anyone. Start shopping on gunbroker to find who sells combos or just buy two seperate guns would be the best option.

I haven't made up my mind on anything really, just seeing what options are these days. He brought this up tonight and I didn't have a solid answer for him. So I told him I would look into it. There is a youth model Remington auto in the safe. He just said he wanted his own and one with a slug barrel so he could do deer drives with it.

Browning silver would be what I would get. Both my boys have silvers in 12/28”. Never jam and theirs will shoot up to 3.5” shells. Can put a low brass, 3” and 3.5 and gun goes boom, boom, boom every time. It’s gonna cost you. The slug gun comes picatenny rail. Then just buy another barrel. Gonna cost ya some hurricane relief monies 😂

I grew up using the old family single shots. It made me make the first shot count.

Later, I bought nicer pumps and autos but still have those old Stevens. Kids tend to sky bust when they have 3-5 rounds to blast away with.

I met your son this summer. He seems like a good kid and under your guidance may not have that problem. Suck on the moment that you are buying him his first gun he’ll have for the rest of his life Dave.
