Having personally been through 2 waves of EHD I think the bigger mental struggle is not just the buck you find dead but understanding the rebuilding process is slow. Last outbreak was 2018 and this year is the first year I would say the quantity and quality of deer is where it was prior to EHD.

Most taxidermist carry a few extra capes on. Just call around and ask they typical don't charge as long as you are using them for the mount.

Congrats on the stellar buck! The coloration of his front right leg is really cool. I shot one a few years ago that had both legs like that with a little more white that I wish I would have got a gun rack or something made out of.
