17 years of shed hunting

Just a little something I was thinking about yesterday.

I became aware of shed hunting in 1998 I believe….I was 17 years old. It started with my beagle dog Spike dragging a small 2 point shed up to me when we cut firewood. I started looking for them that year but never found one. The very next year I found my first shed. It was a very good antler that I matched up later that day with my good friend Jeremy. That set scored 145 as a basic 8 with small kicker. I kept those antlers for a decade and finally gave them to Jeremy as a Christmas gift. They are not pictured below but what is……..is a picture of all the good sets and couple big singles I have found (actually 2 of those sets were found by a friend of mine but were at my farms and while we looking for that particular deer.) I have faith I would have found them If I would have been alone but shed hunting with a buddy is so much more fun. It's not much for 17 years of shed hunting IMO! It just proves how hard they are to find.

So anyway, Every shed season I walk a lot of miles and just ask the man upstairs for "just one good set". Of course I would also like to break my personal best of 72". At any rate... I went for a quick walk yesterday and found myself again saying this very thing "just one good set". I didn't find any sheds but I wonder what the next two months will hold for me? Will i find that one big set….I hope so. Also, good luck to all the other shed hunters!

The deep snow is a good thing when it comes to them, hopefully hiding the early ones and keeping them safe til the others catch up losing them and spring gets here.

Thanks for sharing. Last year was my first year to look. I didn't find any, it hasn't discouraged me at all for this year though! I can't wait for the snow to drop a little so I can go look.

I don't have a single shed buck on cam yet. still all holding both sides. I know guys find them around this time, but mine routinely hold until well into march. the last pic I ever got of a big 8 I chased for 3 years was last spring on march 24th.....still holding both sides. I think my deer found some super glue somewhere
