Is there anything better than a loaded white oak? Yes, an isolated one actually! This thing is teeming with acorns and it's right next to standing corn, a 2 acre sanctuary and 30 yards from a stand.

Altered the habitat to take advantage of it too. This oak is always has good scrapes under it and after 5 minutes with the weedeater and poly head, it'll be a lot easier to find acorns!

We're 7 weeks out, so let's hear how things are shaping up out there.

Ok. I will do 2 reports.

In PA. Lots of apples here which is good for the one stand. Acorns are scarce but I have found a couple of trees that have several on. I still need to check a few more and I need to get my stands ready. A little behind from where I normally am. Hope to start working on the stands this week.

In Ohio. I have the stands all ready to go. I checked some red oak this morning, but I didn't see many acorns. I have another spot with white oak that I plan on checking out probably over labor day weekend.

Haven't set foot in the woods yet here in Jersey.... No desire to hunt deer here.... Bear season is up in the air with Denture Man... State says its on, but the idiot will probably stop it last minute... Heading to Illinois soon... Only one camera out there to check but still curious to see whats on it... Maybe that trip will get me out of my funk... Was a rough July...

Jesse go get some cheap lawn fertilizer and spread it around that oak... Next year you should get a better crop, that's if Mother Nature co-operates and we have no late frosts....

The kids and I got the rest of my stands ready in PA today. Did check out a couple of white oaks and they are loaded. Downside is I don't have many white oaks and the neighbors place has a bunch. I can still setup though to take advantage of movement.

Trimmed some trees for my new XOP vanish run n gun and checked some cameras. Is anyone else as anal as me about what trees they decide do go with??? Ill have full conversations with myself about how this tree will give me a better shot to this shooting lane, and this tree 7 yards away will be better for this trail. I drive myself crazy picking trees!! I'm like Rain Man with my internal calculations about what the best tree is.......

You’re not alone...I’m the same way...after I find the area that I want to be, then you have to consider wind direction, where you expect the deer to come from, where to position the stand for good background cover and also where the sun will be so that it’s not shining in your face all day.

Exactly why I always end up on the ground! 😂

I have often in a good location set 2 stands/blinds so that I could hunt in multiple conditions. I think one time I even had 3. This is especially true for places like a white oak stand that will only be hot for a short time. I don't want to not hunt on an evening just because the wind is out of the East instead of the west.

Checked my cam on the oak ridge, so I made a quick walk through the flat and there's white oak acorns already hitting the ground. Seems the red oaks are off this year and the whites are loaded. That's a favorable set of circumstances for my hunting out there. Pretty pumped for the first late October cold front when I can slip up there for the first time.
