Ben Rising - Greatest celebrity hunter of all time?

Sgt Fury

Sgt. Spellchecker
I have a hard time believing that any one person is the “best hunter” no matter if they are well known or not. Many people have very impressive trophy rooms….They also have spots to hunt that the average person doesn’t. I see the Drurys, Lakosky’s, Kisky’s etc. pass 150’s consistently and end up taking 160’s or better every season. I’ve always felt that if you give a good hunter access to that same prime real estate, they could do just as well. No doubt these people put in a lot of time, money and sweat equity and spend lots of time in a stand, but so do many of us “common folk”….we just don’t have access to the properties that they do.

Cant say anything about Ben Rising. I havent watched hunting shows in 10 or more years. I think they are all unrealistic including the ones that are for the "average hunter". Ive watched a few Meat Eater episodes and that is about as far as ill dive into hunting shows anymore. But if I had to pick one it would be Tred Barta. I didn't agree with everything he said but he had conviction and pissed a lot of people off for saying what he believed to be true, and I'm all about that. RIP Tred.

I have talked to Ben a few times we have farms that are close to each other, I helped him figure out who a trespasser was last year, seems to be a good guy from what I can tell, one thing is the products he promotes he actually uses and doesn't bounce from one brand to another.

I think he is the most likable for me and my family at this point. He has partnered with some goofballs in the past but his current arrangement is great and entertaining. “Big deer are awesome, but Jesus is King.”

Great deer and amazing footage. I was really into it when that moment of impact occurred.

Likes:
I like that this guy isn't shy about proclaiming his faith in God.
I like that he hunts mobile and isn't afraid to hunt aggressively.
Quality of footage and the production was excellent.

Dislikes:
Man, this guy seems full of himself. His ego, unfortunately, ruins it for me and I can't look past it. Hate to say it, but I don't think he's much different than any of the other mainstream hunting "celebrities."

Yes... he obviously knows what he's doing, there's no doubt about that. But it's all about access, plain and simple. Look at how many deer, and individual bucks, he saw and had encounters with in just 3 days of hunting. That property is absolutely stacked. I enjoyed watching it... and I really, really want to like this guy. But I don't know. I just get turned off by some of the crap he says.

Great hunt and videography. Love the fact that he professes his love for our God and Lord Jesus Christ. Need more of that these days.
I stopped watching hunting shows several years ago on cable but occasionally watch THP shows on YT and Chasing November up till Bill left.
I get what JB is saying about the egotistical persona that comes out but I see that in everyone of these hunting celebrities to some degree. I believe with lots of success comes confidence which spawns a degree of cockiness I guess and some can hide it and some don’t. Lol
As mentioned before, time and access are the 2 biggest factors all these celebs enjoy, I’m jelly but hats off to em just the same.

My cousins son was on a couple of his seasons and has killed real good dear. Other than the shows that showcased him and and his brother in law I’ve not watched much else of Ben’s. I will check this on out .

I've never met a successful big buck killer that didn't have a bit of an ego. It goes hand in hand it seems. I agree he's got a mild case of egotism, which I do sense and dislike, but can't fault him for having the confidence he has. It's a fine line to walk to be good at something, confident in your abilities, and be able to share that with others with no detectable ego. Ben's always been the one celebrity whitetail specialist I felt could truly kill deer anywhere. As a forester, he's walked more ground than most of us ever will and that's some fantastic training that most guys never get. He's a different breed for sure.

For whitetails I may tend to agree with his effort, passion and results year after year. He puts out a great show that is on a much higher level than many, for whitetails. For hunting celebrity of all time (people that are still going after critters today) I'd look more at overall hunting accomplishments and would have to include names such as Chuck Adams (still currently hunting right now in Alaska) and Tom Miranda. Sure those two became more famous in writings over the years rather than TV shows but they are well known simply by name.

Mr Whitetail will always be king in my book. Lary Weishuhn. An extremely knowledgable, humble person whose love for the outdoors and hunting is beyond genuine. A true woodsman who regardless of where he's hunting will drag out a top example of that species. From public to private to big texas ranches the man genuinely enjoys his time in the woods. Tan pants, a flannel shirt, shooting sticks, and a pistol. An educated biologist who's written more articles than most people have ever read. The best part is he's as humble as they come, while he recognizes his accomplishments in the outdoor industry those don't define him as a person.

Jared is also top-shelf, but doesn't have the diverse body of work that others have. I agree with @Gern186's statement that a lot of guys on this forum could replicate some degree of success others have if we were given access to the same types of property. I feel that way about Jared. Some guys have an "it" factor, which is what I think Ben has that separates him from the pack. Jared definitely knows how the close the deal and with his new farm, we'll see how he does in year 1. He could change my opinion one of these days.

Ted Miller is another guy I’d love to sit and swap stories with around a nice fire and some suds. That soft spoken dude has got the IT factor too and sounds very humble after downing a monarch.
Anyone that ever had their bow worked on at Boone's in WV, knows Ted's long-lost brother, John. I like old Ted. He reminds me of a few different old school bowhunters I knew growing up. But old John and Ted are two peas in a pod!
