Bobcat Season

Looks like Ohio may get a bobcat season.

Proposed changes to furbearer management included modifying the list of counties open to river otter trapping and creating a limited bobcat trapping season to support scientific research. Trapping for bobcats would be limited to two zones in eastern and southern Ohio, with a small, fixed quota for each zone. Trappers would be required to purchase an additional $5 permit and only be allowed to harvest one bobcat per license year. Trapping in each zone would close when the quota is reached. The data collected from these bobcats would provide scientists with a better idea of the population in Ohio. New counties were proposed to open for river otter trapping, as the species is now prevalent in many areas. River otter bag limits have not changed.

Quotas... 20 for zone B and 40 for zone C. Shit, they'll fill those quotas in less than a week I bet. Oh well... Baby steps I guess. At least it's a step in the right direction.

Honestly, I’ve liked all the changes I’ve seen so far and think they are in the right direction for what I’d like to see.

The bobcat thing has always boggled my mind how so many people hate the coyote but are awe struck by these damn things. Ummm, they basically do the same thing...

Are they only limiting Bobcats killed through trapping methods to where they make some coin via permit or can we fling an arrow or throw a slug through one while we’re hunting or have an opportunity.

Run them with dogs, like a coon. Tell me that wouldn’t be some fun!

guys run them with Cur dogs. they tree them just like Mt. Lions. I'd get into that if we had enough room and Bobcats in Ohio. I crossed paths a couple years ago on a Squirrel dog forum with some guys doing it. they had some cool pics of treed cats with packs of dogs treeing them, dead cats, too. can be hard on the dogs, but looks like wicked fun.

I wonder if you can do that here in the near future without actually shooting them? I’d like the chase part of it...

Are there regs on running dogs if there is no killing going on?

If memory serves correct, you can't 'run' rabbits during the spring time while their nesting? I've heard that but never read it anywhere

In Mississippi they're included in the same season as raccoon and opossum. There's a food and sport season from Sept 30 to Oct 31 with a limit of 5. Then a pelt season until the end of February with no limit.

Something you might like thst they have is a spring squirrel season from May 15th to June 1st.

The first time I ever tried to trap a coyote was back in November of 13.
On my first check I was greeted by this guy. He was a pissy fugger!
It was a rodeo but we got him released. Choked him out with the catch pole, threw my coat over it, got the trap off, and he came to about 10 seconds later. It proceeded to run between us and park it's ass under my quad. Took it over a half hour to finally leave.

They are legal to take in certain counties in Iowa (with a limit of 1), but my county still has yet to be included.
And I still aint never caught a yote!
