Chicken killer

A couple of days ago, Mason noticed coon tracks around the chicken shack. Knowing their tendency to murder fluffy white chickens, we set a live catch trap. This morning, our GSP went absolutely nuts while patrolling around the chicken house. I'd forgotten about the trap, but the dog reminded me to look. Sure enough, like an episode of Lassie, I followed the dog to find this masked rat waiting to go for a ride to a farm in the country... The chickens are safe for another day...

I have no doubt there are a LOT more. The tracks in our creek say there are. I imagine it will be an ongoing battle with these things. They killed over 40 of my fil's chicken in one night, and didn't eat a single bird! Mean little buggars.

I Caught a mink in a live trap about a month ago that was killing my buddies chickens, they don't eat them either.

They sure can do a number on turkey nests too. Just another critter that needs to be kept in check.

My dad lost 14 chickens last week two raccoons. They carried off every carcass. I'd never guessed coons, but we hung a trail camera and sure enough coons were the culprits.
