City hunting

Tonight ODNR gave a presentation to our community about options to deal with the overpopulation of deer. I spoke to them afterwards about hunting in our neighborhood. Mind you, it’s an older neighborhood with yards 50 feet wide. He said I don’t need a special permit and it’s no different than hunting 100 acres with the exception of no firearm use. And there is no law saying I must retrieve the animal so if I lose sight, I’m not banging on 30 doors asking permission to look for it. Of course I‘d do my due diligence. So I think my plan would be to try and thin out the herd by shooting the injured…there are plenty. The nice thing is that I can hunt in blue jeans and a street jacket cause these deer don’t know any better 😆 I’m lucky because my property backs up to a city park and retrieval could be straight forward.

I would tread lightly. The natural resource guys and local PD may have differing thoughts on that. While in the end it may be legal, if local PD picks you up because some Karen calls them, it could be costly to prove you were within the boundaries of the law.

What do you estimate the participation of city hunting to be, due to this meeting? 🤔
Hunting being allowed and getting actual participants, often is two different things.
Slim to none, it was a side conversation I had with them after the meeting. I’m in a liberal stronghold. While a majority of the residents are screaming “do something”!, none want to cull. Now make no mistake, I’m not under any illusion that I’ll make a dent in the population. My frustration is that these deer live on average 2-4 years then succumb to death by vehicle or fence. I get tired of seeing deer living with compound fractures, antlers broken off taking half the skull with it, broken jaws with tongues hanging out etc etc. These are easy pickings. They also gave me contacts with the city to call ahead of time. Trust me, I’m certain to catch holy hell from some of these wackos if found out but I could give a shit.

I’ve posted a few times that i suburban hunted with my crossbow in college, I took 2, my buddy took one. I targeted yearlings as they died easier. I basically got permission from two land owners and hunted a piece of land locked property with creek running through it may have been 2 acres. It was a simpler time the early 2000s

I wish I could help, as it would be fun and work at the same time, but more importantly I wish you the best of luck with your endeavors there. 👍 💯
I’m happy about it only for the fact that I can maybe end some of the carnage I see and thin out some of the herd. At almost any given time I can walk out on my porch and see deer. I’m watching a small buck as I’m typing this. I’m not to excited about it from a hunting standpoint as it’s really not hunting…at all.
