It’s maiting season...
Close enough anyway.

You could try some coy female howls to start off with and go into the others I mentioned. I would give a stand about 20 minutes or so. Play each sound 2-3 minutes. Won't catch me leaving a stand without hitting the coy pup distress 3 though lol.

Huh, I never really paid any attention to what month it was. I know I hear them when it’s maiting season and when the pups hit teenager stage. For 2 weeks they’ve been very vocal.

Late January into February is mating season. They search for dens in February into March. Have pups March and April and sometimes even into May.

Spring pups are usually kicked out in October so you'll see a bunch of yearling pups during October November.

So right now they would be being vocal to determine territory? Using those timeframes you have given, that’s all that makes sense to me.

With the cold weather they would be more food driven then mating driven right now. I wouldn't really mating vocal call until the middle of next month.

I tend to shy away from the rabbit distress because everyone and their brother plays it. We've called em in on grey and red fox distress, coon distress, and pup distress. With a couple female howls mixed in.

Two weeks ago I was visiting my sister in Delaware and some night hunting. My first set was uneventful, but the second was a blast.

Walking in I heard one howling a few hundred yards up the access road. I set up, called for 30 or 40 minutes, nothing. I decided to head down the field a bit more and try again. This time I hit a pack call and the woods in front of me came unglued! Howling, whimpering, barking..... It was awesome then it went silent. 20 minutes later I see eyes about 100 yards in front of me. I lit them up with my kill light, put crosshairs on them, and fired.... I missed.... The scope on my AK sucks. It's only a 1x6x22 and it is very difficult to shoot at night. Needless to say I'm butting a better one on.

I've done some hunting in PA, but it is tough going here. Saturday night we where hunting a local Game Lands and got stopped by the Game Warden. He told us there are lots of coyotes around, but they are educated to calls. My buddy told me they haven't had any luck with electronic calls, but mouth calls seem to get them fired up. So, I'm gonna pick up a couple and give it a shot later.
