Our 2016 Durango has the stupid ESS that shuts the engine off at a stop and recranks when you let off the brake. You can't permanently disable it ,only temporarily each time you start the vehicle. Needless to say it's annoying as hell and no matter what they claim about the beefed up starter and battery it puts unnecessary wear on them. Lots of manufacturers are doing this to get EPA tax incentives. The stipulation is it can't be permanently disabled by the consumer.

With that said I picked up a little widget from this fella and it works flawless. Turns that crap off immediately each time I start the car. A little pricey for what it is but what it does is priceless.

That’s gotta be annoying...especially if you were trying to parallel park....or stop and go traffic.

Very! If the vehicle comes to a stop more than half a second the engine dies, as soon as you start to let off the brake it cranks. There are times when rolling to a stop and barely stopping then going for the gas itll shutoff and immediately recrank.

Get used to it though because it seems like every brand is slowly putting it in their vehicles and NOT letting you permanently disable it. Before you go buy a vehicle check of it has it, and check that theres a workaround to disable it

Won't be an issue for me for a good twenty years. Buy well used. Pay cash. Add more toys and add to retirement account. I'm not changing this method for awhile. Lol

Oh I bought it right buddy.

There you go! Honestly, when we sell the 2011 Explorer we will likely be looking at 2015-2018 models so this could be an issue. We normally shop 3-5years old under 100k miles. Let someone else take the $20k hit. We drive it 4-5years for the $4-5k hit.

We have walked away from buying a couple different vehicles because of that idiotic ESS. Good to know there's a solution!

If they're in the car with you for a test drive it's funny to watch the salesman reach over all stealth like and turn it off as soon as you crank the car.

Funny story about vehicles with this. I haven't owned a vehicle newer than 1999 until last May when I got my f150. I had to travel to Miami for work and decided to bring the wife down to spend a week in South Beach. Our rental car had this shut off feature, to which I was completely new to. It pissed me off immediately at the airport terminal and I figured out I could curb it by putting the car in neutral while sitting at stop lights. The problem was is that this Jeep had the turn knob for a shifter, much like a volume control knob for the radio. While sitting at a light on ocean drive, the light turned green and I turned the knob and hit the gas. Expecting to propel forward, I was shocked as I suddenly went into reverse, much like demolition derby mode and nearly made a Mercedes Benz have to break the quitter stick. After a quick 10 pucker factor and my wife calling me some not so nice names, I turned the volume knob and headed forward. Needless to say, I'm not a huge fan of the start stop engines...😂

Not a fan, but the wife’s suv has it. I usually turn it off when I get in. But if I forget, I just adapt and overcome 😂😂😂
