As some of you know we bought 100 acres nearly 2 years ago and have been working on the property for wildlife and also building homes on it. Last year we piled up the turkeys and Tyler broke the ice with a 139” buck that we didn’t know. About the same time we started getting random pics of a big framed 3 year old. After gun season he moved in and stayed through the spring. Nothing was seen of him until October 14th. When he came back he took over the front half of the property. Based on last year we had one stand we felt confident in that we would kill him. After checking a cam on the middle of the property that was set up on a scrape I told Tyler w we needed to hang a stand there. He was all over that scrape but only at night. Tyler hung a stand during a rain storm while I was in WV.
With the weather and wind we were hesitant to hunt it. Finally I tried it and saw a few deer. Then yesterday I tried it again. At 2:45 I heard something behind me and there he was about 70 yards. He was slowly feeding away. When he got across the hollow I started grunting and here he came. At 45 yards he hung up and wouldn’t come any farther. I was pumped to just see him. Finally a shooter in our property.
Tyler opted for that stand this morning as I went to the one we figured to kill him from. At 9:00 I got a phone call from him. He didn’t even need to tell me. I knew who he killed. He rattled and looked down into the brushy hollow and here he came. He picked out a hole at 30 and double lunged him. To say we were both excited it’s an understatement. We haven’t posted pics of this deer because of Internet poachers in the area. We have some incredible videos of him but our internet is messed up right now.
He is a main frame 9 with a kicker. Last year he had split brows. Now they are bladed. He grosses 146 6/8.
