Such a shame. Praying for the people in the area.
unfortunately this is what happens when we mis-manage timber and allow massive amounts of closed canopy forest to continue to build up residue on the ground for years.
We have been so conditioned to fear fire, we allow the worst case scenario to occur again and again.
must fight fire with fire!

Damn, NJ isn’t one of the spots where you’d think this would be an issue.

Sandy soil, lots of oaks and pine trees. The “pine barrens” is nothing but pine trees for miles…lots of fuel on the ground.
Saw this on news last nite and wondered if our NJ boys would be affected. Now we know...
