Ice Chisel Recommendations

I have a home made ice chisel that's basically an old t-valve made of 1/2" solid steel rod and it has a sharpened point on it. It's about 4 1/2' long and weighs approx. 3 lbs.

I've been considering welding an angled chisel tip, simular to the Frabil Ice Chisels. However, I'm not sure what the advantages would be or if I should stick with what I have.

Do you use an ice chisel?
What are the different tip advantages? (straight edge, angled edge, sharp point)
Any other suggestions or pointers?

Mine is a 5' long piece of 3/8 rebar with a 3" wide x 6" long chisel welded to the end
It is straight edged

I did a home made heat treat on it so it stays sharp

Oh BTW put a loop or eye on the top
With a landyard to put around your wrist
It has saved me from loosing another one through the ice when my hand slips

I use one for spudding the ice, but not for chiseling holes to fish through. If I were chiseling holes, I think there would probably be an advantage to using one type of point over the other. However, for spudding purposes I don't think it really matters.

Oh and John is right on the money about the loop on the end. I've seen too many people throw their ol' faithful spud bar through the ice. lmao
