I have fished the “hard water” for about 35 years and I’m not going to claim every adventure was an educated one but I’m still here to tell about it. The forecast is definitely favorable. Can’t say in recent (5 or so) years it has gotten this cold in the first couple weeks of December to even entertain the idea but I’ll take it. Where are you thinking about fishing at Snag?

We've gotten about 3' so far this year. I haven't seen any grass since before Thanksgiving. Well...unless you count the dispensary at the Indian Reservation.

Current snow depth around here after melt is in the 18" to 2' range. The deer literally patrol my driveway and the street to avoid walking in the deep stuff.

Don't know if I'll even be able to get out after Christmas to Flinch Lock!

Ice fishing used to be my favorite way to fish. But like the Bible says, "The Old Kings are reluctant to go out to battle." I have a Fish Trap Pro back in the shed, I used those table elevators and snow ski's to allow me to raise the plastic sled up off the ice for pulling through heavy snow. It then allows me to drop the sled back down on to the ice when I am fishing, but to get to my hut I'm going to have to snow blow a path about 75 yards back to my shed then clear the crap away from the doors just to get it out...

I'm ready to snow bird it down past Joe's to bake in the sun like old folks do! If it wasn't for bowling I'd probably head there for the winter. Oh well, time to blow out the driveway for the deer, and for the old doe I married 37+ years ago.

(he is not related to me.)

2013-14' winters
Getting more like the winter of 77-78 every day. I worked 3rd shift at a truck stop on I-90 at the PA NY line. After a week I had seniority in the diesel pumping crew filling them big rigs. It never got above 32 degrees from Christmas to St' Patty's day up here that winter. Snow was piled up by the giant Oshkosh machines graders and plows till it was up to the wires between poles. Granted the poles were smaller so the wires hung lower but still you get the picture.

I pulled some electronics from my boat the other day and got them in my ice shuttle, respooled some ice reels and did some organizing. Have a few loose ends I need to finish up for school tomorrow, then most of my free time will likely be on the hard water. I’d still like to fill another tag or two, but deer hunting sucks and I’m over it 😂
