Moultrie Cell cam

The last thing I figured I'd ever buy again is another trail cam. I don't have much land to utilize all the cams I have now, & I certainly had my fair share of experience with cell cams to say never again ! But..... one day last week I was outside drinking, the mail came & I had a new flyer from Cabela's . I started browsing, & two days later, this arrived. Moultrie X-6000 low glow. There is a X-7000 model that is no glow, but with my club points, this was free, so why not ! What caught my attention was that there is no sim card to mess with. The cam has its own modem & connects directly to Moultrie. These cams come in two versions..... Verizon & AT&T. It has nothing to do with phone you have, just what coverage you need. I got the AT&T, but it wouldn't have mattered. It arrived yesterday while at work, & today I'm already receiving deer pics an hr after putting it up. You control / adjust settings from your PC or phone app. You have to buy a plan & it goes by monthly or you get a somewhat better deal by paying for the year. There are different plans. It goes from 100 pics a month for 4.99 or so, to 1000 for 8.99 or something. There's no 500 a month & even more & so forth, depending how much u wanna shell out. It does beat having to go to the AT&T store like I use to for monthly top offs.. Anyway, you have two resolution options.... low & high. I'm not that thrilled about the high, but from what i remember from the other cell cams I've had, I'll be happy. like I said, this was free for me. I can get a 3 shot burst & it'll send them all. minimal delay is 15 sec. These were on sale for 119.00, & with a 3 yr warranty, it'll be interesting to see how that goes.

With cell cams, the cost is not in buying the cam... it’s in the data. My SPYPOINTs are around $10 a month for unlimited pics. 100 pics per month is free. They all have their own set of pros and cons. Be careful though, they are addicting. Once you go cellular you’ll want all your cams to be that way. It spoils you. Don’t get too caught up on the resolution... they compress the image when it’s sent to you via cell service. When you actually pull the card you’ll get the full quality image.

Wow. That right there made me order another. I still had $15.00 club points to use ... lol. Make sure u buy lithium batteries. They advertise 3 month battery life but I don't know if that's using liths or not.

I dunno if ur talking to me or not Dave. Other than a few fawns & coons at night, I finally got a doe this morn. There have been a lot of false pics due to the sun hitting the ground & the heat I imagine .For reception's sake, this is a good spot. Everything the cam caught has been dead center.

On another note, as I was sitting down to drink some beer yesterday after a funeral, a doe & a late bloomer fawn came by. It'll be interesting to see how it fares by November. My other x6000 arrived today, but I'm at work.

Thanks Kevin. I was talking to you😂. I think one or 4 of these would be cool as hell for my back yard and driveway. Just to keep tabs on things and see what critters are doing.

Any way to turn down the heat setting?

Cool. My mind was wondering if it wasn’t triggering fast enough to catch it. Since the animals seem to be stopped in the pics, makes me think if they had any speed going, they would be out of the frame. And this isn’t a false reading at all.

You could test it by walking past it at different speeds.

Well I played with the newer cam last night & this morn before deploying it. It wasn't an in depth fuggery type of thing but just out of curiosity. #1, the X6000 is not low glow. It's more glossy I suppose. It'll be interesting to see how deer react, if at all, coming along the trails. #2, I walked by at different angles and the results didn't leave me disappointed.

On another note, my birthday is in a few days & one of the girls was wanting to get me something. Since we've been talking about the Spypoint Cell Link here..... I was going to order from Cabelas & use up some more reward points, but they're outta stock. Stay TOOned.

I'm sitting here drinking coffee out in our screen porch & this deer came thru the thicket. She ended up going on the path my cam is set on. The signal strength was showing all bars & it took almost a minute to receive the pic. .....

This is where cell cams can make u paranoid .... they don't always show good signal strength. This particular cam showed great reception all day yesterday & then nothing at all in the evening. We had storms come thru. My other cell cam was showing weak signal, which it normally does anyhow. I decided to walk over to this cam & check it. It's maybe 80 yards away. As I started,I looked up & a deer was standing there. Then another came out. I didn't get any pics , so I dunno. I made it over to check after they left & turned it off & on. A 1/2 hr later I got a pic of a doe. It could very well be they just weren't in the line of fire. Even when the cams shows no signal, they still send .

So the moral of the story is leave the damn thing alone ! Lol

Updates on my X6000's for anyone interested. I just brought Kev #2 home for the season. Back in October, I had to replace the lithiums in this particular cam for some goofy reason. Kev #1 has been on its original lithiums since July when I got it & still going strong. Both have worked flawlessly taking thousands of pics with no hiccups. Since I bought a year long subscription for Kev #1, I'll leave it up year round. I tried to downgrade back in October, but you have to wait for your data subscription to end before any changes will occur. I didn't realize that at 1st. For pic quality, the daytimes are good, night time could be better. My Stealth Fusion Trail-Tek cell has the best night pics, though the day's not that great. I dunno if the Trail-tek is actually the Fusion, for which they're both quite similar. Sam's Club has them for 109.00 and you get a free 90 day unlimited plan to begin with. I kept looking at them each time I visited the store & my resistance wore off. My Spypoint micros have decent night time pics and they pic off deer a good ways out, so I hope they'll hold up.

My moultrie has worked well also and is still going strong after a few thousand pictures in the last 3 months. The only thing that gives me fits is the stability of the iPhone application. Luckily there web site has been an alternative source for viewing pictures. I may pick up a second one next year. Checking for pictures is kind of addictive.
Here is the buck I killed this year a week before I killed him.
