So one of the things that has kept me busy the last four years (and able to fund some really expensive hobbies/trips) has been my summer job working as a commercial sockeye salmon fishermen in Bristol Bay, Alaska. My job as a teacher has kept my summers free, and my brother lives near Anchorage and connected me with my captain. It's a 32' fiberglass gillnetting boat named the Rebel. The salmon run from June to August, with the heaviest fishing in July. Highest season was three years ago with 228k pounds, and last year we caught 140k before I had to leave early for an Africa hunt (that story to come later.) This job is a grind, but as I said it has paid for some pretty spectacular things. Here's a few photos, I have hundred from over the years. Because I left early, I got a ride back to town on the Time Bandit. All those crab boats work as tenders in the off season, we deliver to them every day, get fuel and food from them, and also manage to take one or two showers and do about the same number loads of laundry over about a 6-week season.
