So i was looking around at gander mountain today and i found a rifle that i really like. A LOT. I've done a lot of research on it and read a lot of reviews. Watched a lot of videos of it being shot too. I held it and it felt like it was custom built for me. Its the Savage 93 BTVS. .17 HMR or a .22 Mag? Whats your opinion on the gun??

I have the 17hmr with thumbhole stock and stainless barrel. Love it! Probably my favorite gun to be honest. I have a couple which are a lot of fun, but the 17 has been very loyal to me. Taken many groundhogs and other such varmints. Accurate as heck too!

hunna771,
Awesome rifle brand and caliber. The .17HMR is extremely accurate and affordable to shoot. The Savage name speaks for itself, as a brand that continues to produce excellence in rifles.

Unless Gander Mtn. is having a sale and the price is unbeatable by local gun shops, I'd suggest shopping elsewhere. TNT Firearms in Findlay will work with you on a good price, for any weapon.

I have Savage .17hmr with the regular synthetic stock and it's a great shooting rimfire. That tiny little 17 grain bullet is like a grenade when it hits something. I don't know squat about ballistics, so I don't know which caliber would be best for you. I do know that the .17 is really affected by the wind out past 100 yds... The .22, being slightly heavier, may not be affected as much. Either way, go Savage and you won't be disappointed. That accutrigger kicks ass.

The Savage is a great rifle. The only one I recommend higher is the CZ. The have a real nice combo for it...

Here is the one you are looking at. Ships free and no tax. All you would have to do is pay the transfer from the FFL you had it shipped to.

Vances here in Cbus runs them for $299 a couple times a year usually.

Well, my dad has a .22 mag and i have a couple .22's. He told me to get a .17 HMR since we don't have one. I'll be shooting a lot with it hopefully. Woodchucks, squirrels, coyotes possibly. That sort of thing...

hunna771,
I was hoping to not see coyotes mentioned in your list of hunting selections. A .22 Mag. would be a better choice, in a rimfire selection. However, I don't recommend anything other than centerfire rifles and shotguns for coyotes, as they're some tough customers. You don't always get the best shot placement with coyotes and with that combined with a very minimal caliber...equals run-offs. :smiley_armscrossed:
