Thursday my wife and I drove up to Benezzet, PA to check out the Elk County Visitor Center We stayed at a very nice bed and breakfast in Winslow that ended up being literally in the middle of the newest elk viewing area. I figured if we saw three or four elk we would be doing good, but we ended up seeing at least 100! We didn't see any big bulls, but throughout the evening and early night we were treated to the sounds of mews and cow bugles. The real action doesn't start until the second week of September when the rut starts. luckily the B&B had an opening so we booked another night. Hopefully we'll see some big bulls bugling and rounding up their herds.
We also heard lots of coyotes howling all night. I'm seriously thinking of going back up in March to do some yote and elk shed hunting. There is lots of state game lands around so access shouldn't be a problem. A few big elk sheds would look great in my new house. :smiley_bril:
I applied for an elk tag, like every year, but with only 86 tags and 25K plus applicants I'm not getting my hopes up.
