Peculiar bird

Thought I killed a hen as a pair of mallards came in. On second inspection, I am not so sure. I don't want to assume gender this day and age.

It's definitely a hen. Drake's don't have a mottled bill like that. Also, see how the white along the top edge of the speculum goes beyond the edge of the blue, toward the body?... On drakes the white stops at the edge of the blue.

Definitely not a hen black duck... Didn't mess with it. Just cut the breasts out.
