The band, ‘Van Halen’ was one of the first live concerts that I attended back in the day, the ‘Diver Down Tour’ in 1982. It was one the loudest concerts I’ve ever witnessed and I have been to a whole lot of live concerts events over the years.
In fact, I believe they actually set a volume noise record back then while playing at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY for the loudest indoor music concert event ever at the time, something like over 100,000 watts of pure ROCK music.
I also recall that it was Eddie’s birthday and they all celebrated really hard that night. Each of them got totally smashed on stage, although they played suburb and the show was awesome.
Towards the tail end of that show, I recall that all four of them were arm in arm, shoulder to shoulder and about to bow down to the crowd after kicking a leg out into the air and that’s when Eddie fell backwards with a 5th of Jack Daniels in hand onto the stage floor. His head bounced right off that floor like a basketball, and then instantly back onto his feet again, and acted like it didn’t even happen, but it surely did. If was funnier in hell and I too was completely wasted by the end of that concert. Took me days to recover, but I surely had a fantastic time; before, during and after, all throughout that winter night!
Anyhow, below is the last time that I believe the band, ‘Van Halen’ toured in Ohio live as original band members, which they reunited that year to do the tour. The concert date was August of 2015, up near Cleveland, at a real nice outdoor venue.
Eddie played great and so did the entire band, David Lee was him typical self, a true stage entertainer.
The weather was absolutely perfect for the entire event. I was thrilled to see them all together once again. It was the first time the wife ever got to see them play live. I have seen them play live at least a half a dozen times over the years. I’m a huge fan of their music and always will be.
The videos are what I took with my cellphone at that time. Not the greatest picture quality, but the sound is decent. The second video is Eddie’s solo encore, which he was truly in his true professional form as a musician, the Eddie that I’ll always remember.
R.I.P. Eddie & thanks for all the wonderful memories over the years!
We got photo bombed
