while I was out deer scouting a few weeks ago at Ground Zero (that's what Nancy has dubbed our hunting property because the street address is 0 $&*^$*#### Rd) I found quite a lot of rasberries and blackberries. we went a picked two quarts of black rasberries yesterday and enjoyed some food from our new piece of ground. the berries were slow to ripen as I have been watching them for nearly a month, but there will be twice as many in a couple more days. blackberries so heavy on the plants that some are falling over. a couple more weeks before those are ripe, but we did pick a handful of ripe blackberries, too. Rasberries are my favorite, by a wide margin. Slumps are cooked entirely on the stove top in cast iron skillet or dutch oven, unlike their cousin cobbler which needs to go into the oven.

this on the heels of cedar plank salmon with bourbon butter/smoked brown sugar glaze. just before taking it off the grill, I shower it with juice from half a lemon and sprinkle on some fresh chopped Rosemary.

I don't have time to really go after salmon this time of year, but I can tell you that the wild caught sockeye salmon at Costco is very high quality. as good as I have ever bought in a store. it's only there for about a month this time of year, but we stocked up last year and ate it off and on all winter. I'm stocking up even better this year so I can cold smoke some whole filets this winter.

I'd really like to go back to Newfoundland and fly fish for salmon when they run, which is about this time of year, I think. the moose guide I hunted with does that in the summer.

Yeah I usually buy frozen salmons from Sam's Club. Been awhile since I've bought any. It's really good
