Scored some Milkweed Pods

Milkweed seeds, from inside the Pods are a great source for finding wind direction. A handy tool, on days that the wind is constantly switching, inside a wooded area where the wind sometimes swirls and on low wind days that can make it difficult to tell which way the wind is blowing.

I've been using these for years. they work great, and are very inexpensive. but the best thing of all is that we are helping to propagate more Milkweed, which is a very delicious and nutritious wild edible native plant and also very important for the survival of Monarch butterflies.

So, test the wind more and often.

Stumbled upon a large area of milkweeds while on my property in Ohio and the pods were huge. I also noticed lots of monarch butterflies in the patch. August is a good time to find monarch caterpillars on the weeds feeding…but by September most are already adults.
