Anyone that truly loves catching BIG fish should plan a weekend getaway and come to Jersey in May for the striper run... Plenty of charter boats to jump on... Fishing is either in Raritan Bay or just off the beaches... When fishing ocean side sometimes whales will surface near the boat... That alone is a sight to see...
A lot of these fish are in the 25-50 lb. range...

My brother went to Rutgers U and he went for stripers while there - had a great time with those fish. I came once but we went waterfowling. Tight lines, looks awesome.

Not many striper pics on my phone... But here's last two I got... These are caught in the Hudson River by West Point... Bait used up there is eels... At times the fish finder would go completely black with schools of fish... These are from two different days and was a few years back when I was in my early 50's... Both days we caught over 20 fish ... All fish were released to fight again....

Dave, or anyone else... If something like this is on your bucket list, shoot me a PM and I'll help you with dates fish are running, names of good charter boats, etc. Something you and your kids will remember for years to come...

Here's a message board down the shore that has a lot of info... Fishing Reports, Charter Boats along with their rpts... Gives you guys a lot of info.

Don’t forget to tell they guys that want to go fishing that they need to get a saltwater registry which is done online and is free. Also, you can keep one fish that measures 28-31” and if you apply for a bonus tag, can also keep one that measures between 24-28”. Double check the measurements Rich as I’m going off of memory and not looking at the regs as I type.

George... Correct ... I'm not sure of the current regs... As far as the saltwater registry I believe as long as your on a party boat ( charter ), you don't need the registry... But like George said: It's free and takes 5 minutes to register online... As far as size limits I'd have to read up on that.... Like I said I would gladly fill anyone in if they are interested....And I'm sure George would chime in... Like I said, if your into fishing, it's something that you should do at least once, esp. if you have kids... Just the whales would blow them away... I kinda got away from fishing and am more into hunting...

Oh.... Dave... One other thing I forgot to mention: SANDY HOOK HAS A NUDE BEACH... So bring extra strong binos....
