Thanks for all the well-wishes and congrats, appreciate yinz (yinz is said instead of y'all to honor my NE OH hosts).

Cut up and vacuum sealed half the meat yesterday while it rained, it was glorious. Of course we had breakfast

Today while the other guys are hunting I'll be cutting more meat and going to town for propane. As for hunting the rest of the week, this camp has a 2 deer limit. If I shot a doe this week, it would screw up my plan to come back for gun season. So, I'll go public on Tuesday- one of the locals is gonna give me directions to a place close to here, and I'll see if I can't rustle up a doe. But if I do, then that screws me on hunting public during muzzy. I don't think I like the new public rules...kinda hampers the opportunity for guys who hunt public, but what do I know?

Maybe I'll just relax the rest of the week.

Did you know that youth gun is moved up to this weekend, not the following weekend (like normal)??? Check your plans and calendar, that news took me by surprise yesterday

This spot is called "The Hole in the Fence" Basically the view is from the top of a ladder stand that puts you at eye level with the 8 ft wide trail next to the fence you see there. It's an all or nothing spot - they will come from the right or the left and you gotta stop them and shoot them between the posts.

So the deer came at 4:20 from the right...I heard him walking and saw antler thru the brush....I drew down on the shooting lane and waited for him to come into the clear. He was walking quickly with his nose on the air...snap decision that he's a shooter, then I stopped him and drilled him thru the shoulder and double lunged him. He took off 40 yards and died (very conveniently) on the trail, right next to a scrape.

Nice 7 point (formerly an 8 point but snapped one off fighting). First day of camp.. he's hanging now and I'll cut him up at my leisure today while it rains, got the rest of the week to relax and maybe hunt a doe, maybe not :)

Last Pic is the obligatory nut shot for @giles

Always love your posts. Great to see you're turning your son in law into a high level deer camp machine as well. 😁
