With the saving Ohio has recently given me, I’m gonna travel a little bit this year. This new job is a 4-10 schedule that gives me 3 day weekends. I have no excuse to not travel 4-5 hours. Question is:

Which way do I go?

Everyone knows I don’t hunt for a tape measure, so it’s more about the hunt. Zero trophy thoughts here. I’d like to go some place that has deer to be seen and maybe shoot a 2-3 year old buck. But seeing deer is the most important.

Pennsylvania?
West Virginia?
Indiana?

Hell, Sgt and Fletch make jersey sound like fun. Just a bit of a drive for a 3 day weekend.

I voted other and nominated Kentucky. Where Alex and I turkey hunted just a couple hours south of you we saw tons of deer. It was probably a 5 mile drive down a 1.5 Lane road to get back to the small town with a Subway. On the way in to town one evening I guarantee we saw 100 deer in the rolling fields and clearings.

Not sure how that didn’t list that one. It was my number 1😂. Can you edit it for me?

Thanks, and if anyone has a hunt planned and could use another guy, let me know. Or maybe if any of you are interested, we can plan a hunt of two. Plenty of time to figure it all out.

We have plenty of deer in Jersey...just not the quality that you’ve got in Ohio...don’t think it would be worth the gas and tolls to travel 8 1/2 hours to kill a 80 pound doe or a 110 pound buck. I’ve been hunting since I was 14 (I just turned 56 last week) and my two biggest here are 143 and 146....all others are 120 and below (some WAY below).

We didn't draw an elk tag this year and are seriously considering a Wyoming OTC pronghorn hunt. I'm trying to talk them in to a southern hog hunt with dogs. The experience of following a pack of dogs in on a bayed up hog at night with a catch dog in hand is something else. The feeling when you let go of that catch dog collar and it snaps out of your hand and he bolts in on that hog is a hell of a thing. The realization when they get that big boar latched up and now it's your turn to go to work is a thing every man should experience in their life.

Indiana is two 1/2 miles down the road from me and never hunted it. It's affordable but I've heard the big tracts of public gets hammered. I wouldn't mind throwning lead at a Hoosier deer on private with I hipo though....(I don't think rifles can be used on public)

West Virginia gets my vote. It’s got a special place in me heart and were I learned to hunt. I got out after Christmas this last year behind my mom’s place and it was great. Didn’t shoot anything but definitely felt the nostalgia from squirrel hunts with my uncle while growing up. There’s some monsters on his property that he refuses to shoot because “does taste better” so I’m hoping one walks by the stand I tossed up.

Pennsylvania and Indiana are next on my lists as well!

Dave... Just saw this and saw you mentioned me and Fury... Jersey would be a great place for you to visit... Plenty to do here during the summer months esp. with NYC just over the Hudson River.. Kids would love the Jersey shore esp. the boardwalks at night with all their rides and games.. You would love all the eye candy on the beach... NYC has dinner cruises up and down the Hudson River which are pretty unique... The fishing during the summer months also can't be beat... Either fluking in the back bay or doing an offshore overnight trip to the Hudson Canyon (approx 100 mi. Out)... Hunting wise certain areas are not bad, but deer size wise can't compare to Mid-West deer... Did I ever mention that our bear hunting CANT BE BEAT... Biggest LegoLand in the US is being built about 1/2 hr from me in New York, scheduled to open in early July... Only one problem..... CORONA VIRUS... So 2020 is questionable....
