This weather is not what most of us would like to see for the last weekend of deer season and prime time yote hunting; despite it being "great" weather all things considered. I was looking back through trail cam pics from January last night and got to thinking how this mild winter is really a blessing for the coming season. It should keep the yotes fed and off the deer. For the deer, it really can't get much easier than this. We had snow on the ground for nearly a month last year around this time and it was a pretty harsh winter for our area. So while we are not getting the kind of weather that aids us in filling a last second tag, it could mean great things for this fall!!!

This is a great way to look at it. Mild winter should help the percentage of fawn survival. Should help reduce deaths of yearlings this winter. Should enable pregnant does to be plenty healthy and the bucks should have one heckuva jump start moving into spring. Downside to this is the coyotes will also have these same advantages.
