@giles' thread about wildflowers had a positive outcome on the future of our farm. I showed my parents @jagermeister's CRP pics and they both agreed it would be a good solution for what we call the "Back Field". It used to be cattle pasture, then a hayfield, then traditional row crop rotations, then a pretty piss poor attempt at a clover/rye patch. I'll need to get with @LonewolfNopack on preparing for things, but I'm excited to get this underway. I'll continue to plant screening cover on the W and N sides, with a big food plot on the N end, so this CRP will make a nice addition to our over plan.
You can see the food plot up top, then the brown area on the lower 2/3rds. That'll become the CRP, which is roughly 2 acres and is what's pictured above.

Sounds like a good plan, that's exciting for you. Feel free to reach out anytime I'd be glad to give whatever advice I can. Remember it's a marathon with native plantings. It's good that you are already starting to plan.
Feeling my age today after completing a fairly simple habitat project yesterday. I ran a leaf blower for 2 hours and it feels like I fought a 12-round fight!
A couple of my goals this offseason was to establish a clover/chicory plot in the Pond Holler and another on the N Ridge. With the drought last year, the Pond Holler plot still has a ton of exposed soil, but it was covered in leaves. I took care of all the leaf litter and hit it with Domain Hot Chic. I'm hoping to get the N Ridge plot done this weekend, but I'm at least halfway to the goal!

Got up on the ridge and knocked out another chore today. This has always been one of my favorite spots on the farm. I have a stand for a N wind tucked in a cluster of 3 mature white oaks about 20 yards from here (behind and to the right). I love hunting an oak flat between bedding, which is why this place is fun to hunt. I've killed a couple handfuls of deer up here over the years, and with plans for a ground blind setup (straight ahead in the pic) for the girls, I wanted to open this old food plot up a little. I first planted this with a no-till blend back in 2009. I made a drag out of 4x4s and railroad spikes to rip it up, but it's been years since I've done anything else to it.
I started by dropping a total of 10 trees along the edges to open the canopy, including the big cherry that was halfway dead. I used all the logs and limbs to block/make strategic access points, then came the hard part: blowing leaves. It took 6 tanks of gas and 2.5 hours
With soil exposed, I hit it with a clover and chicory blend. Got the old
