Wanna hear the kicker! Stooped by the taxi to give him a pic to look at, and also a mount pic I liked.... He got the cape out of the fridge and showed me that the deer had 4 wounds on his neck from fighting.. They didn't puncture but were nickel sized spots where he had been gored... Something shoved him around and whipped his butt.
Congrats Joe! That's a dream buck for sure....glad you are on my team! Were you able to salvage any of the meat?
After this search, I bet Joe forgot the deer even had meat to stuff in the freezer! Ol' boy thinking about finding that rack. rotflmao

Congrats again Joe. I know in the past I've rushed taken up the trail. I hope your experience will remind not only a beginner but also a more seasoned hunter how to handle a situation similar to yours. I know I've taken something away from reading your story!
I'm partial to the semi sneak. Plus, it gives you more options of hanging it if you have low ceilings. Stay away from an upright. I have one upright and there's only one place I can put it. It's too high!

Sadly no. The meat was not salvageable. I got it hung up and brown stuff was leaking from his nose. Cut into the backstraps and they we're brownish purple and rank.. My guess is he died not long after JD and I bumped him. Temps in the low 50s that night..
