I did not go on the trip, and am darn glad I didn't. They went, hunted a week and never saw a bear. The accomodations were horrible. He said the pictures of the cabin must have been taken 20 yrs ago and the place hadn't been cleaned since. :) I'll go one of these days, maybe. There seems to be plenty of adventure for me right here along the banks of Paint Creek. I'm pretty mellow these days!

Thanks Brock. I am having a really hard time finding ways to keep my mind off the trip. I have been looking forward to this trip for what seems like years!:) but one thing is for sure, the number of days left until I fly out are definitely getting smaller.

I think you will enjoy the bear hunting.I have been on 4 Archery bear hunts,One in Saskatchewan and shot a chocolate phase bear one in Alberta shot a black and have a friend that lives in Cordova Alaska and have hunted there twice the last was in 2005.They were all great hunts but enjoyed Alaska the most as it was a physically challenging hunt. I shot 2 black bears in Alaska one was around 400 pounds and the other was a 500 pounder. Are you going gun or Archery? If you go Archery i think you will really enjoy the up close and personal with the bears.I had 2 climb my stand in Saskatchewan and that was nerve wracking but also awesome.I did learn that about anything you would hunt in Alaska does not come easy and was glad i got in good shape before i went.I will be 50 in July so i am at that point where the easier hunts are more enjoyable.I really think you will enjoy it.Are you hunting over bait and if so i would take Archery gear as it will be very rewarding to you.I really enjoyed the bear hunts but now it seems like i just stick closer to home and chase those antlers.Good Luck on your bear hunt.

I really haven't decided on what I will be hunting with. At this point I am more leaning towards my slug gun and rifled slugs. I may take both, just don't know for sure. I will be hunting over bait barrels.y guide told me that it is so thick up there that 50 yards will be a long shot. I am really looking forward to the last week of August. I'm under 100 days on the countdown now. Woohoo.
Those sound like really nice bears you shot in Alaska. I have seen a lot of videos where bears have climbed people's stands and I think it is more common than people think. I know one thing for sure, that would definitely be a rush. Thanks for the good luck wishes and hopefully in about three months I will have some awesome pics to post.

Since you are hunting over bait i would definately try archery. And yes if one does climb your tree you will never forget it.Looking forward to seeing your pics when you get back.I really enjoyed the other bear hunts also over bait and they were very relaxing hunts kind of like deer bowhunting out of a stand.Just really enjoyed Alaska as it was a DIY hunt and the scenery was awesome. Also got to see Moose everyday and some Wolves and Brown bears.Gotta go but will post some pics for you later on.

Not a big fan of bear meat i think it is a little greasy kind of like when my grandma used to cook raccoon for grandpa.Funny the one did'nt taste like chocolate though. LOL

Yeah it is, my stepmom would bake it on a rack so that the grease would fall off and collect away from the meat or put it in a crock pot and skim the top as the fat collected. It was good (to me) that way.

Great Photo's!. Is that one bear (with the hour glass on his back) rubbed off or is that a marking?.

Here are some more pics and how i had them mounted. That big gear was in Alaska and yes he was rubbed on his back or i would have shot him.I went back the next year and ended up getting him.He was a huge boar that my friend's have been seeing for several years. He is the one mounted standing up.

You have had a good run on those bears :)
That rubbed one (mount) came out great!
Yes it came out really well. The year he was rubbed their was alot of snow on the mountains when he came out of hibernation and his paws were rubbed off also from the crustiy snow.He must have been laying on roots or something while hibernating that caused the rub on his back. The year i shot him his coat was in perfect condition as he had no rubs at all.He also had a little bit of white on his chest which they dont see often on these bears in that area.
