Your right though Phil, case and point look at our deer numbers in Allen county. There is no way in hell this county should be a 4 deer county. And if it isn't about the money, why did they jack the price up on anterless tags. Your right, why should we do their job.

Who deserves the lions share of the credit for the whitetail deer restoration in Ohio is debatable. Not so with the wild turkey. Without the vision of men like Charlie McKibben and Bob Donahoe, the turkey would have remained extirpated from our state. We, the sportsmen of Ohio enjoy some of the best wild turkey hunting to be found anywhere and we are all 100% indebted to the DOW for this. What would the downside be to sharing your local observations with the organization that made it possible?

Truthfully Mike? Lack of any trust in those making the decisions. Therefore, the unknown is enough reason for me. The unknown future agenda. The unknown everything. I have filled out deer surveys in the past. I have seen releases which take those facts and skew them terribly. Like I said, I know some great individuals at the ODNR. Just have a bit of distrust on the macro level.

In regards to turkey hunting and who deserves credit. . . .thanks for the education. I had no clue. We don't have many turkeys in my hunting areas. There have been increasing amounts every year and I have seen them spread out maybe 1/2 mile to a mile further each year. Maybe some year they will be throughout the county instead of just pockets.

I had 3 hens in the yard yesterday and today. One hen both days had a single poult about the size of a quail. Must have been a really late hatch. No wonder with all the rain this spring and summer. Only seen 3 hens with poults this year.

I've been watching two hens with nine poults total almost every day behind the house. They seem to be doing pretty good on the surrounding farms as well, which really surprises me due to our large coyote population!

That's crazy Jake! I've got a pretty cool trail cam pic I will try to dig up tomorrow.

It's crazy scary! A few years ago I remember there were poults everywhere..I was even riding the fourwheeler through the field that year, and as I skirted the edge of a pine grove I passed 2 different groups of hens/poults within 200 yards. The 2nd group I passed had a hen come after me TOO lol.

But yeah dig up that pic, i'd like to see it.

I had 5 mature hens feeding in the yard today and no young ones. I fear it's been a poor hatch around here due to the wet spring and early summer.

I've had 5 mature hens in the yard yesterday and today feeding and no poults. I had thought about taking a turkey this fall since this is the 1st yr. for Fall Turkey season in SW Ohio. I will take a Tom only now since it looks like such a poor hatch this year.

Good idea. Also refreshing to hear of responsible thinking!
