I took delivery of my latest 2 toys last night.
A Hi-Standard H-D Military with 3 magazines. I plan on using this as a carry farm pistol as I like the idea of the exposed hammer. Only made I believe in 1948-1949. I loaded 10 rounds and function was flawless. really good deal as the original magazines are 90.00 each. Probaly trade one magazine off for a original magazine for the Astra 300 in 380ACP.
The other pistol was a WW11 Nazi Astra 300 in 380ACP made in Spain. I believe the 300 was a Nazi officer sidearm. All matching and really nice shape. I bought this for a investment but since I like the idea of the grip safety I may use it as a CCW carry pistol. I tried one magazine of my reloads and it functioned flawlessly.
Live is enjoyable when your having fun with toys. I tell non-gun people I know I invest in valuable metals.

Awesome! I am a High Standard man myself. I have near-mint Model HB that is one of my most treasured firearms.

This one has no collector value as someone D&T'd the trigger guard for a trigger over travel set screw. The grips are not original either but they feel good in the hand. That's the reason no one bid against me on Gunbroker. I feel I have a 150.00 pistol.
I bought it for a working carry pistol here on the farm.

$150 for a working HS is a great deal IMHO. I would like to find a beat up one to make a suppressed pistol out of it.

High standards are alot of fun to shoot but try to stay with standard velocity ammo as the high velocity stuff can crack the frame on the older models.

They also have a tendency to spoil you on 22 pistols.

A lgs had a HS a couple weeks ago. In the $6-700 range iirc. I didn't ask to see it because I was afraid I couldn't hand it back.

My H-D fires flawlessly with standard velocity ammo. Matter of fact it was the Russian Junior Brass. Which has always shot just as good or better than Eley 10X in my target rifles.

I found out through research the Hi-Standard H-D Military was made 1945-1950.

A rather funny story on my valuable metal investments. I'm on the Board of Directors of a large Credit Union. I was making a deposit of several large checks on guns I sold. And the Cashier knows me and asked what exactly I sell to have all these large checks. I told her I sold some valuable metals.
She got real excited and goes, "gold, silver, and diamonds"? "No guns". She had a real shock on her face and goes "Oh that's OK". The word got around.

Well I sold my Sig p220 compact that I bought off a guy who had orders to Great Britain. I sold it because I picked it up at a really good price. If I put the P220c next to my P299 there isn't much difference in carrying them. I made a decent profit off the sale and used the money to buy a ruger 22/45 lite and ordered a S&W M&P Sheild 9mm. The shield should be here in a week or so. I still came home with money left over. I've been wanting a .22 pistol to shoot instead of my center fire handguns and revolvers. It cost of ammo was starting to become an issue. However I do not care for the weight of the Standard mark III's and 22/45's. I was planning on buying a used Mark II or III or 22/45 and putting an aluminum Pac-Lite upper on it made by Tactical Solutions. but that would have been pretty costly. $250ish for the used handgun plus $250ish for the Tac-Light upper. Luckily Ruger introduced a their own aluminum upper 22/45. I'm starting to think Ruger is having Tactical Solutions build the uppers for them

The handgun comes with two magazines, a scope rail, lock, soft sided case, and is threaded for a suppressor. This is a pretty good value for the $375 dollar price tag. I cant wait to shoot this thing this weekend.

Nice piece Tom. I have been eyeballing a Sig myself lately but can't bring myself to drop $700-750 on what I am looking at. Thinking maybe the Ruger LC9 might be my next purchase. $300 less than the Sig and very similar size.

That is a very nice looking .22, Tom.

Let me know how the Shield is...I finally got to hold one in a store a few months ago and really liked it.

Thanks phil What Sig are you looking at. Is it a P938?

I've shot different friends Shields in both 9mm and .40, Jessie's Walther PPS, a XDS 9 at a gun store, a Sig P938 and another friends lc9. The Shield was the one I liked the most out of the bunch. they are all good but the shield has all the features I wanted.

Hmm. . . P938 is what I was looking at. Just can't justify it. Might have to look into the Shield. Haven't gotten to fondle an XDS9 yet.

Nice Ruger. If it had a exposed hammer I would have bought one of those instead of my HS H-D Military.
