A perfect evening with the grandkids!
We built a bonfire and while waiting for it to die down some, they chased squirrels, rabbits, caught a tiny toad and then some crickets to feed the toad (the crickets were as big as he was!) and tried to catch the frogs in the creek. And of course, we caught fireflies.
My daughter had picked me up a bag of marshmallows during her lunch break, but left them in the car. Though I stuck them in the fridge for a few hours, there was NO saving them. The kids still wanted to try and roast them.
I ended up sticking my hand in a bag of sticky-taffy like consistency mess and tried molding them to the stick. We only got 2 that actually worked and I was a sticky mess from head to toe. But the kids still loved it and kept saying how great it was! lol
As the fire burned down to that perfect flicker, the kids wanted to know about playing some music. I asked why when all they had to do was listen to the beautiful music already playing. After they listened to the sounds of the crickets and frogs, etc., they decided the nature sound was prettier than anything on the radio, so we continued to sit by the fire for awhile longer.
It was a perfect night.
