Hey I have a bright idea? I will stock pile some more gills and fry some up at Strouds. I will try to have 25# or so on hand if anyone wants some there. Fried fish and Jesses fresh cut fries will rock around a campfire! Hint hint lol.

I got an even better idea. Why don't ya fry some right now and I will come down and help ya eat them? I think that's a heck of an idea. That's probably the best fish I ever had, with maybe the exception walleye.

A lot of people are surprised at how tasty bluegill is. most think its just a trash fish because they are so easy to catch and are in pretty much every fishable body of fresh water around. Personally, I love the little boogers. And whats really nice is you can take the kids to fish for them, they will catch them all day long and help stock the freezer.

I have eaten A LOT of bluegill over my years and have always liked them. But I'll tell ya one thing for sure, those were the best bluegill I have ever eaten. Sorry Mary. Sorry mom.
Sorry ex wife, to heck with that I ain't apologizing to her for nothing!
Hats off to you Ron. :)

Said it a couple years ago in another thread and ill say it again.

I think they're better.. I think people go apeshit over Walleye and Perch because they're a pretty neutral flavored fish.. Kind of like why people eat the hell out of Cod and Talipia.. Bluegill and Crappie win every time in my book...

I concur Joe, bluegill and crappy are my to favorites and yellow perch and Wallys are next.

When I'm eating salt water fishys, grouper and red snapper are my two faves...blackened or deep fried baby!!!!:smiley_coolpeace:

A buddy at work wants some TOO. I might just order some(30lbs-6 five pound bags) and what I don't sell here I can bring to Strouds and sell the rest there. I'm a bit anxious as a co-worker brought in a ton of fresh frozen perch and white bass from Erie he caught over the weekend and I'm wanting to fry up some soon, plus my neighbor is having a bluegill derby and fry in a few weeks...

I wasn't at the shoot but it's tough to beat bluegill and crappie. When we fish Indian Lake I just let those old boys trolling the channels for Saugeye cruise right on past while we are yanking in the gills and crappie. I've always used Drake's, may have to give this batter a try!

Yep, I agree with you! I took my daughter last night and we caught 15 big bluegills and two bass. Can't wait till they are deep fried and on the platter.

If you do get the chance, get some of this Weisenberger batter and give it a try. It's good on peppers and cheese TOO!

There was some discussion of getting a bulk order of batter for strouds, Any idea what the status of that order is? I would still like to get some.

I have a good bag of crappie left in the freezer, I'll bring that to strouds with me. And i hope to get after some gills tomorrow. If I get some of those I'll pack them as well.

Yeah, I will make sure someone has some at Strouds. My buddy got the 6 pack of 5 pounders. We split it up and I paid him 22.50 for 3 bags. Jesse is getting one of them. It's very reasonable price wise if you can buddy up with someone and buy it bulk.

I will bring fish and cheese to Strouds TOO.
