Thanks for the well-wishes! I had another good hunt, but didn't kill a thing. Went to Fayette Co again. I saw two on the walk in, did not spook either, cause I have a magic flashlight. The first one was feeding in a cut cornfield about 60-70 yds from me when I first saw her. I put the light on her, got my video cam out and waited. Like normal, she walked toward me. She came within 15 yards or so before I decided to move along. I kept the light on her and strolled on. She stayed put. Just before climbing up I shined the light and saw another deer feeding in the cut bean field that my stand sits over. It walked off and I climbed up. As I pulled my bow and antlers up, the antlers jingled a little. By the time I got everything hung up, there was a deer directly under my tree. It was a buck, but way to dark to tell how big it was. It went on out across the bean field none the wiser.

That was all the action I had until 830 or so when I noticed a doe feeding on the landowners cornpile a couple hundred yards away. I watched it for a time and just as it wandered off, deer popped up like mushrooms. There were deer on 3 sides of me! I saw 11 after the sun came up, and another on the way out that was feeding along a woodline. There were two bucks, both a little too small to kill this early, but the "big 6" is a 3 1/2 yr old...we know him. :) Both bucks were dogging does..it is getting close to getting good, IMO.

Here's some pics. The doe I walked up on while leaving. The lil buck, the big 6, and the doe I DID NOT spook this morning due to my magic flashlight.

I have been seeing quite a few, Mike. But keep in mind, I can see a long, long way from the fencerow stand. It's a natural funnel that a great many deer will come through, but most that I see never get within gun range let alone bow range. It does entertain me while I wait though. I quit hunting inside the woodlots a few years ago, even though I think I developed a pretty good low impact tactic that didn't disturb many deer. I just prefer to leave the timber to the deer...they are a lot more active during daylight hours when they haven't a clue they are being hunted. It works in the AG country I'm hunting.

This morning was my first time out since Wednesday. Hate to think what I've missed the last couple of days! Mason had my camcorder the other day, so of course I could not find it this morning, which should have been a sure sign I would see a ton of deer.

I saw a total of 22, could have been more, but at least 22 different deer. Deer popped out all over the place as soon as it was light enough to see them. I saw them in every direction, some on the move, some milling about. Four bucks, one shooter for sure and I thought he might give me a shot but the doe he was following turned the opposite direction at 105 yards...dang! The most exciting part of the hunt was seeing a group of 8 antlerless all together, five of them fawns. That is exciting as heck to me. For several years, up until last year in fact, seeing a fawn had become a very rare thing by the time hunting season rolled around. Coyotes and lack of does were to blame. There hasn't been a doe shot off this farm in several years, and I've worked at killing off as many coyotes as possible during late winter/early spring. It is working! So nice to see deer again!!! The good old days may well have returned to my part of the world, at least to this one piece of property...still don't see any deer along the road as I used to on my journey to the farm.

I can't wait to get back in the tree for the morning hunt tomorrow. Mason and I will be going out tomorrow afternoon. Great time of year!

You better delete this post before the wrong people read it Brock. You will be a 4 deer county again before the end of the season. lmao

Glad you are getting out and enjoying yourself. Good luck to you and Mason tomorrow.

Ha! Good one, Phil. Per the man who is paid to manage our deer herd, it is up to us to manage our own herd...so we do. Don't shoot does, and kill coyotes. Funny how the guys around here who have relied on the DoW to actually do their job are not seeing any deer. It doesn't pay to trust a formerly trustworthy organization to determine bag limits and appropriate seasons...you wind up with nothing to hunt. Been there, done that.

The last two mornings have been insane for me. I lost count of how many deer I saw Sunday, and didn't even try to keep track this morning. This morning, I didn't see many does, but did see some really nice bucks. Sunday I saw both does/fawns and bucks. The rut is starting to heat up in my neck of the woods! I've seen bucks following does, grunting, fighting...all the early rut fun stuff. Saw a dandy locked down tight with a doe today too.

I'm looking forward to the next few days. If I knew how to load videos I would, I have hours of them now. Below are some pics from the last two mornings, taken from video. Notice the really tall and narrow buck...he was at 60 yds this morning, not a stick in the way. Something is likely to get shot soon.

If I get the right wind, I will be on the ground in the CRP field shown. I have seen big bucks go through it nearly every morning from my stand. I want to get up close and personal. I'll get up extra early tomorrow as they have been moving from first light until 9 or so.

You are my freaking hero right now! Love the high and tight buck as well as the last one. You are seeing more action than Kid Rock after a concert at the trailer park right now!

Don't know what to say Brock except awesome, and you must have found a diamond in the rough. I expect to get a picture from you when you kill that monster. I have saw one deer total in Fayette county all fall driving all over the county for work,

It's shaping up to be the best year I've ever had, Phil. I thought last year was good...this year is looking even better. I keep telling myself not to get into a rush 'cause the really big ones tend to show up later, but I would have been happy to kill that high and tight one...he is pretty impressive on the hoof. If he'd have been just a little closer, I'd be done. He looks A LOT like the one I killed in WI a few years back, split G2 on the right side and all. This place has really blossomed over the last few years and I feel it's due to NOT shooting many deer off it, and killing coyotes. I haven't seen one from the stand yet this year. I saw 10 in one morning 4 years ago! I'm just enjoying the show for now. BTW, I should have better pics of the high and tight one soon. In the pics shown, he is standing in front of the landowner's cam at a cornpile I replenished after yesterday's hunt.

Seth, I can see literally for miles from my stand. When I started saying years ago that Fayette was running out of deer, I said that based on observation from these type stands, and cams that ran 24/7-365. I KNOW what I saw. Through cooperation with this particular landowner, it is again the mecca of deer hunting it once was...but if you leave the property, you still will have a hard time finding a deer to hunt. In all my travels back and forth so far this season, I've seen ONE deer from the road. As Mrex's and my mutual friend says "There are areas in Ohio with great hunting, in spite of the ODNR"! Jesse and Joe will tell you I was the first to cry about our deer herd years ago, but there is hope, if you happen to be as fortunate as I am in your relationship with at least one landowner. I now have two. And I know with people seeing deer in the area, they will start getting more pressure from others wanting to hunt....and poaching will certainly increase again.

I gotta add Sunday evening's hunt. Mason and I went over to Ross Co. We got there a bit after 3, made the climb and promptly scared two from in front of our stand. They were the only deer we saw. Very slow evening, no turkeys, just a ton of squirrels and one cat. The trailcam in front of the stand has been busy though. Couple of really nice deer over there. We've decided to name the big 7 POPCORN, as he pops up when we put out corn. :)

Here are some pics. I didn't get any real good pics of Popcorn, they are blurry, but he was there again. I need to reset the clock on the cam, but we did have pics of the two does we spooked, and another big, old looking buck during daylight hours. Mason should get a crack at something from this stand...with antlers.
