Question. How hard is the hunter safety course?? Back in my day you did not need to take a course, your dad taught the kid. Just wondering.

Ted ...its really based on common sense. They have a number of ways to do it. There is a home study course, the instuctor led, and I believe as an adult you can just take the test without completing any course work. The test is 100 questions. True/false, multiple choice, matching, etc. Ours was a 3 day instructor led course. Roughly 9 hours of class/test time. Only need 80% to pass. If you score at least a 70% you get a chance to make corrections that session and have it regraded. Our instructors were great with the group.

Here is something I did not know... if you never took the safety course, regardless of age, and want to hunt out of state, you must take one. For example, my dad who is 75, decides he wants to head to Colorado for an elk hunt. He must take the safety course here in Ohio. That's crazy.

When I was in sixth grade back in '72 we had what was called sixth grade camp where every spring, all the sixth graders in the district got to go to camp for a week... not all at one time, but there was one day each week where a game warden would come in , explain gun basics, shoot a gun & we would then have a short course in regards to hunting safety. It was neat, but far different than TOOday I would imagine. I still proudly display the patch we received .....

I still have mine TOO Kevin! I should display it like you have though. :smiley_coolpeace:

I needed to show my certificate once and did not have it. I called the DNR and they sent me a copy of it. Just in case anyone runs into this situation like I did.

went to my first ever hockey game tonight, had a great time and really liked it! We went down to Wheeling WV. and watched the nailers play for my youngest daughters birthday. One thing I can say is that you dont realize how hard them guys are checking each other into the glass until you see it and hear in it person, only bad thing was there wasnt any good fights! had acouple small pushing matches but no brawls!!! Oh, the nailers won 5 - 4

my buddies played in college......them boys can go when they want too! For the young guns reading, when you are fixing to fight ask 2 questions. Are you a wrestler? or you a 2. Are you a hockey player? After those are both NOs just have fun!!

Today was pretty good. Boiled off three dead heads and made 10# summer sausage.

That's a good day in my book!

I almost said the hell with it, and laid around yesterday. With the rain coming down today, I'm glad I didn't. Spent the day cleaning up the garage and yard. Got two cookers moved indoors, all the leaves in the yard mulched. Moved my trailer out of the lower part of the backyard and up onto asphalt. Quad hasn't been started in damn near a year, so I charged the battery, pulled the air cleaner and sprayed a little ether, and was putting around the yard in no time. I also washed some of my heavy hunting clothes and let them dry on the clothesline. I'm going to try and get out everyday of gun season on two properties.

Kids are so funny. My 4 year old grandson, Landon, had absolutely no desire to hunt. At all. He hated the deer mounts in my house and said he would never hurt a deer. Yada, yada, blah, blah! :smiley_chinrub:

His mom bought him a camo coat and all of a sudden, he wanted to go hunting, and I mean right now!

So, even though this is a horrible day to try and get out in it, we figured we better strike while the iron is hot! :pickle:

Got back from OSU medical center acouple hours ago, had a follow up appointment with the infectious disease clinic for the infection I had from my last hip replacement, after giving what seemed like acouple gallons of blood and having everyone and their brother look at my arse cheek I can happily say that everything is looking good! The Dr. explained to me that I will need to take the antibiotic (Bactrim) indefinately or until I have the hip replaced again (which I hope never happens) and I have to have bloodwork done every 3 months to check things out but I can have that done here at our local band aid station so I will no longer need to drive to OSU anymore!
