I am personally not a fan of taurus pistols, too many bad QC and horrible CS stories to suit me when there are other pistols in the same general price range that don't have those issues.

First you need to decide what caliber you are looking at. Many people in the self defense community consider the .380 the absolute smallest caliber to carry and/or consider it marginally too small. Most consider the .38 to be as small as they would go and there isn't much of a difference between the .38 with a 115 grain bullet coming out of a snub and a 90 grain .380 coming out of a mini pistol but there is some. Does it matter? I dunno but the better option is something you will always carry versus not carry.

Those .pdfs will help you figure out comparison on sizes. Then it comes down to personal preference and trigger type.

I would also stay away from the SDVE SW you mentioned, the triggers are HORRIBLE and you can do a lot better for the $.

Yep to what Doug said. I would pass on the Taurus also because anyone I know that gets one has a 50% of it not running right. Literally half the people I've known to buy them have issues.

I wear a L/XL glove and none of the pocket pistols in 9mm bother me. Some in .40 would be a handful for a newer shooter. My best advice is to go to a range that has rentals and try them all. If the difference is $100 on something you are going to trust lives to....I wouldn't skimp. Eat top ramen for 5 days for lunch to make up the difference.

I love my shield.. You might be able to find something used on arms list. In that price range I would suggest a ruger sr9c or sr40c. Both are fantastic and have a great trigger.

After much folding and going back and forth and annoying the hell out of the gun guy with a million questions. I decided on the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. It tucks away really nice, and feels solid. Can't wait to send some lead down range.
