I forgot about this thread.

I'm assistant coach for a K, 1, and 2 grade team once again this fall. I'm basically the offense and defense line coach. We have 13 boys on our team. Mostly a youthful team with only four 2nd graders. My son, is a second year player and entering as a first grader. 6 years old, 48"tall, 81 pounds, and very strong.

He was nominated as player of the game in last night's scrimmage by our head coach. He's come along way since last year. I have him at center and defensive guard, the same positions I used to play so he's been well instructed and taught so far by your's truly.

In last night's scrimmage he tore it up with 2 tackles for loss in the backfield, one stripped fumble, a multitude of tackle assists, and run hole plugging at guard. We later moved him to inside linebacker and he was making some lateral moves and tackles against the sidelines on the outside (where did that speed come from?). On offense, we plugged him at tailback on a 4th and goal situation and he accepted the handoff up the middle between center and guard, bounced off a couple of linebackers and in for a standup touchdown. Proud Pappa I am. He's come a long way since shying away from contact last year as a Kindergartener. He was almost dominate on our play field yesterday. Now that he has some additional confidence instilled within him I can't wait to see what he will do at tomorrow's scrimmage.

On the sour note...appears we only have about 4 talented kids on our team. We probably won't win too many games but we'll have fun....that's all that matters.

Awesome deal. It's all about being safe, having fun, and developing good fundamentals. My alma mater is McComb, a small D-7 school that is a perennial powerhouse. Our youth and middleschool programs generally don't dominate but really focus on the basics. By the time they get to Highschool they are well prepped and usually a very good team.

Klay's 7th grade team beat St Clairsville (sorry Schu) 6-0 last night in an offensive explosion. Klay was 4-6 passing with around 50 yards. He completed a huge 4 and 13 backside post for about 25 yards to lead to the only score. He also picked off a pass deep in our own territory to give us the ball back at our own 10 late in the game. Fun to watch!

Both boys play next wed evening.

No worries Mike. I don't have many ties back home anymore. Any family I have would be playing for Martins Ferry or maybe St. John's. BTW Our kids beat the heck out of Aurora last night.

Our scrimmage went even up last night. My son played another good game. He's a presence on the field already as a 1st grader. Can't wait for next year when he'll be at the top of his game as a second grader. Last night he played center on offense, did well, no fumbled snaps. He got to play tailback for one play with an 8 yard touchdown run, playing the role of "William The Refrigerator Perry", carrying half the other team on his back into the end zone. On defense he played some defensive guard, got a couple tackles at the line of scrimmage, grabbed one fumble in the backfield, and deflected a pass when we plugged him in at inside linebacker later in the game.

The head coach sent me a text last night at 10pm wanting my approval to switch my boy from center to wing. He wants to utilize my son in higher areas as well as using his blocking skills for outside pitches. I gave my blessing so next week a new position is forthcoming.

Our Mighty Might Blue team isn't very good, the Gold team is tough. My boys are on the JV and Varsity, but we will be playing on the same day.

I figured we'd have issues with both teams. We just got our pads last week. Helmets were on backorder so we got a late start this year.
We play the Sboro Gold next week.

Our first game is tomorrow versus Streetsboro Gold. Our final scrimmage last night was lack luster as our boys showed up flat and not affective. Based on that we're having an emergency practice tonight to prepare for tomorrow's game. I have a feeling we're going to look pretty ugly out there tomorrow.

On Wednesday both 7th and 8th thumped Buckeye Local.

Klay threw a 65 yard TD on a fade route (about 30 in the air) and had an interception at his safety spot.

Kody had a good game defensively and blocked well at TE. He just needs to hold those blocks a little longer. He also caught a pass on a banana route and thought he was in the end zone (no lines on the practice field at buckeye). He caught it, stood there ready to celebrate, and got drilled in the back. Lol

Good for the first down, but he was at the 1 yard line. Oops. Why we didn't play at their stadium is beyond me.

So, Klay's 7thgrade team is 2-0. Kodys 8th is 1-0. They went undefeated last year. They both host Oak Glen, WV next Wednesday

First games of the year in just a couple of hours. Head coach thinks this will be our toughest game of the season...we'll see how it goes.

'Boro youth football rocked this weekend. The youth program went 6-0, with several shoutouts. My younger son had a great game. He recorded several tackles for loss, forced a fumble and had a sack. It was a great game. We were down 14-0 and came back to win 28-21. Here are a couple of pics of him. He is number 33 and has on the yellow cleats. Look in the background of the one pic to see the other teams coach throwing his clipboard after Micah sacked their QB.

Another tackle in the backfield.
