Today I learned if you put a high priced restaurant in downtown Lima people will go there. I put off going there for a couple years. Wife's birthday is coming up. She requested it. So today I learned a high priced restaurant in downtown Lima is like throwing a homeless man in a tuxedo. He is still a homeless man, just dressed up. Downtown Lima still sucks.

Mine wants $5.19 a pound for one. Told them to fugg off. Lol

Costco brother...Costco. or Restaurant Depot.

Anymore I about refuse to shop at Kroger. Plain and simple price gouging. Years ago their Tonys pizzas went from 10/10 to 4/5. That's a 20% price increase. I asked the store manager how he can justify that. His response. "Fuel prices" I asked the butcher why all of their meat was so ridiculously priced. His response "grain prices". Now that both fuel and grain prices are in the shitter and have been for a while why hasn't their prices begun to drop? Simple answer. Price gouging. Since 2009 the price of Kroger groceries has increased 40-50% by my observations.

And don't bother to go in there the first week of the month. They raise the prices to price gouge the food stamp crowd and elderly that get their checks on the first of the month.

We buy our crap food (boxed stuff and essentials like milk, eggs and bread) at Kroger and buy most of our veggies and meat elsewhere.

We have done a comparison of Giant Eagle, Walmart and Kroger and we save more shopping at Kroger supplementing with CostCo.

We do the same, I actually got the brisket at 3.60/lb yesterday. I am not paying more for brisket than i would a steak.
How much is a Costco membership per year?

Have you checked out Trader Joes? Their selection which is aimed more at the granola/crunchy crowd does have some really good stuff and they had really good prices on babyback ribs when i was looking for some this summer. I generally think their prices are better than Krogers on the stuff we buy there.

Costco is like $55 a year.

Costco meat costs just a bit more than your average sales price but you are getting at least a grade better than elsewhere.

For example:

Walmart a CHOICE packer brisket is $3.68 a pound.

Costco it is a PRIME brisket for $3.89.

Kroger is ridiculous. I don't know why people seem to be always in there. The only
thing I get at Kroger is their chocolate milk. Can't beat it

I have had better meals for less money. We tried it. It was good. Just not "great". Followed our dinner up with a viewing of American Sniper. Very nice quality evening.

The movie was phenomenal. How Clint Eastwood was not nominated for best director is beyond me. I didn't learn it today, but I re-learned how liberal and unjust Hollywood is. Eastwood captured emotions of Bradley Cooper I cannot express with words. Excellent.

So this is how my buddy gets $1 off his gas prices with Kroger rewards. Ain't nothing free.

I shop exclusively at Kroger. When you live in the sticks, there aren't many choices. Krogers is 10 minutes away. Giant Eagle, Wal-Mart and Sams are all 25+ minutes away. Closest Cosco would be well over an hour away.

Krogers gets my business out of convenience. However I will be visiting Sweet Meadows Market in Zanesville tomorrow to look at their grass fed meats. If I'm going to pay more, I'll pay for quality. Since I'm in Cambridge for work, they won't be too far our of the way.

Not really a TIL. Just random things that go through my head.

I wonder what would happen if I released a couple breeding pairs of attic fur seals in Lake Erie.

TIL owning a home built in 1940 blows.....3 layers of ceiling to remove due to frozen pipes that burst in 5 places and no insulation. Have insulation in for tonight/tomorrow and the pipes insulated. Back at it tomorrow evening...ImageUploadedByTapatalk1424322681.240846.jpg

we've come to the same conclusion, and shop Kroger for basics and Costco for as much as possible. not everything at Costco is a great deal, either, but their meats and seafood are just plain better, imo. Kirkland brand coffee is still a good deal after all these years.
