Had five doe within shooting range, three fawn out in front two nanny doe who refused too come out of some thick stuff....people (farm owners daughter/sil) were out messing with their well.... About 280 yards (I ranged them lol) from me and were dropping the F bombs on a pretty regular basis while trying too get it running again lol.... He doe went back into the woods and the fawns followed them.....

Had a fawn come in and saw about a million turkeys. The turkeys keep my on my toes though when I start getting bored. Glad I went out it was relaxing.

I would've let J start a iks thread but I didn't want to invoke the wrath of heir Kaiser the iks nazi. Wasn't going to shoot this doe but she kept trying to find me, stomping her feet. If she would have just walked off she would have lived. Most of times when a doe finds you she becomes a pain. Thanks for all congrats.

Sounds like good management IMO...glad i read this as i'm still wet behind the ears in bowhunting! Thanks!

Don't know. Don't know him or his number. I say he is dropping it at the taxidermist. I am being optimistic for him.

Took the Club Car UTV out tonight with Graci. She will be 14 here soon. We tore the crap out of it. Part of my "enjoy the season and don't put too much emphasis on things" approach. Ripped a fender off and cracked the hood. Drove it through a woods I haven't scouted all year. Lots more trees down than when I last saw it. I hauled a ton of firewood out of there last winter. There is a bunch more down. We had to make some detours. What did I see? My stands are still all there. More vegetation than I remember in the past. Same well worn deer trails. A couple of decent rubs. Yep. It should be ready for a mature buck to move in around mid to late November. Happens every year. Doesn't hold them, but pulls them in when all the other does are bred. Might hunt it once or twice in November. It is my go to spot for the kids. Couple double stands hung already. Can't believe we went through there around 6pm tonight. I would NEVER do that in years past. I think I am starting to relax and enjoy it more!

Sorry guys, didn't get a chance to update last night.

Anyway, we went to the last place that he was bedded down and found some trickled blood, not the pool that I was hoping for. We could not pick up a blood trail in any direction leaving the bed. We started a meticulous grid search of the entire area and looked for about 3 hours. After feeling confident that we had performed as thorough and responsible of a search as we could, we decided to call it off. It has been several years since I have been unable to recover a deer that I shot and I forgot how demoralizing it feels. Like a swift kick in the junk. I only hope that he wasn't mortally wounded and lives to be pursued another day. Thank you all for all of your advice and encouragement!

Sounds like you did everything within your power to find this deer. Hope he's still alive so you might have another crack at him. Good luck!

Man that sucks, but you did your best and hopefully you get another shot at him. How big was he anyway?

He was a typical 8, about as wide as his ears and decently tall. I'd hate to guess on a score but a nice shooter for me. I can't stop running the shot through my head and wondering what I could've done differently. Torturous lol

It does suck. I shot at a big one last year and only found a couple drops of blood and it still bothers me to think about it. It does feel good when you get a good shot on the next one though!

I agree 100%. This is the absolute worst part of the sport we love. The highs are incomparable and the lows are unbearable. But at least we have good group therapy here lol
