I've just skimmed this thread and didn't see a mention of a survey being mailed to anyone. I got one in the mail today and there were some different questions than what I've seen in the online survey I've done in the past few years.
I never got one. Pisses me off

Never mind, I got the survey in the mail yesterday!

Is that a typing error Joe, or do we need number check on the site. Seems it was less than 5% of hunters kill more than 1 deer posted recently.

As far as hunters being dumb, some are, but IMO most are not. Even the dumb ones are smart enough to avoid checking deer with the TeleCheck system though. I believe TeleCheck was part of the plan to reduce the herd. I believe it will also continue to make estimating the herd size difficult as we go forward.

I will agree with one statement made in this discussion. Hunters will never unite for a common cause. Most of us on this site are quite dedicated and we still have very different opinions as to how to handle the situation we are in.

I started a thread a while back asking if passing on does was in vain. After this discussion I'm convinced I'm definitely in a big boat with only one oar.

I did a short search and found 2011-12 results on hunters taking more than one deer.
19% took 2 deer.
5.4% took 3
1.8% took 4
0.57 took 5
0.29 took 6
So really almost 1 out of 5 hunters took 2 deer. The 2 and 3 deer number is almost 39,000. Eliminate those numbers would make a big difference.
But I understand some areas need more deer taken than other areas. This needs to be looked at more closely.

So 27.06% of Ohio hunters took 2 or more deer in 2011-2012....

From DNR

During the 2011-2012 Season, 157,726 people successfully killed a deer. Of those hunters, almost 73%, or 114,789 people, harvested just one deer. About 19% killed two deer, followed by 5.4% killing three, 1.8% taking four, 0.57% taking five, and a mere 0.29% harvesting six or more deer

Or better than 1 out of every 4 hunters killed 2 deer? That doesn't seem right.

These numbers are for successful hunters. Typically 33% of hunters are successful. So if you're thinking about the overall licensed hunters cut that in a third to 9%.
